I saw this in the Sporting News Today. This was in response to the question "SN's preseason 1-100 poll is out. Which team are you having second thoughs about its place in the poll :
Dave Curtis answered the same question by saying we might not end the season in the Top 20 because of roadies at Florida, Auburn, and Arkansas. I'm feeling optimistic, so I'm inclined to lean more towards Hayes than Curtis on this one. I would feel a lot better had JJ showed the traits that Hayes speaks of in the Spring Game. Feeling great about the D and running game, and pretty positive about the O-line improving from last year. What say any of you?

Then I look at LSU at No. 20, and I'm beginning to think we may have lost our collective minds. The Tigers will be terrific on defense, and I'm not sure I've seen a quarterback absorb more grief than Jordan Jefferson -- despite throwing 17 touchdowns against seven interceptions in an offense that was much too conservative and couldn't protect him.
Former mega-recruit QB Russell Shepard is now a wideout, and Jefferson will blossom in his second season as a full-time starter with quicker reactions and decisions in the passing game.

I WANT people to think we're a laughing stock. When we punch teams in the mouth it'll be that much more enjoyable. I honestly believe we see a nasty team on both sides of the ball this year. I think we'll see a team with a chip on their shoulders all year long.

think the defense has way too many major question marks to call terrific at this point. Agree w/ you ab Jefferson in the Spring, he seemed to plateau/regress going by reports and his abysmal performance in the Spring game. Didn't see any of the quicker decisions or reactions he refers to. After all he is still being groomed by Crowton. Run game has to be improved one would think.

dm21, I think that is exactly what we see against UNC!

I think the defense will be better than what most think. Despite what say I think we have some beef in the middle of the D-line.

this is hogwash. LSU cannot improve...only the teams on our schedule can improve.

YAY! Someone belives in us. (No thanks to Les Miles)
That's right. Miles deserves all of the blame when things go wrong and none of the credit when things go right.

Well, it is nice to see someone without an emotional bias being optimistic about our team. I hope he's right.

I was hoping to see that last year, but it didn't happen. For that reason, I don't think we can count on it this year. The team may be improved, but this "chip on their shoulder" thing that somehow having a 9-4 season last year will piss them off and make them do better just doesn't hold water if it didn't after 2008.
