Add it to the insanely long list of things to fix around the program.

For me our lack of toughness has been the biggest issue for the program under CMM. It adversely affects almost everything we do. We can't get into our offense because we get pushed around, pushed of our spot, screens are soft, we get whipped on the boards we lose most 50/50 ball, we can't block out on free throws and on and on.

And yes, some adjustment in the strength program would certainly help in that regard but you also need to get some folks in the program with toughness already ingrained into them, I've seen muscle-bound players who were soft - got to get some kids with some attitude and we have to make a concerted effort as a program to value toughness.

yes, if we had a coach like Sampson or even Sampson.
Most top coaches have some unsaintly problem, but they know winning basketball. LSU hires a nice guy who has no clue what winning basketball looks like. Other than having one super star player, his teams were clueless. Our AD followed the Southern Miss model and hired MBB version of Curley Hallman. Amazing any program could make the same mistake twice.

When Kelvin Sampson took over at Houston he told his strength and conditioning guy to go visit Alabama and LSU and see what they do… for football

It’s no surprise that all of the final four team’s players look like they could start at any D1 college football program. Whether it’s because they are gifted athletes, have better S&C, or a combination of both, is beside the point. LSU has been really far behind in the physicality department under McMahon, especially at the guard position

Who follows a S&C guy for over a decade?

He shares lots of good advice. You could probably use some.

Houston recruits tough, athletic players. But what makes them great is toughness and effort is DEMANDED by Sampson. It’s the core identity of the program.
This is consistent with what I posted.

Houston recruits strong, tough guys and Sampson demands they play hard and tough. That's 99% of it. Sure, S&C can help a bit, but it's overwhelmingly the god-given body and talent of the player, and the demands of Sampson on the floor, that drive the type of play that we see from Houston. As I've said many times on this board, a coach gets from his players what he demands, and he gets less of what he punishes (the same thing applies to parents, teachers, managers, etc.).

If it were as simple as S&C to make teams play like Houston, then every program in the country would be doing it.
