This was also the first game of a very important series against the #1 team in the SEC/country. Get that first game win and some of the pressure is OFF the team for the next two. Also, the winning percentages and quality of opponents the rest of the way decreases as the season goes on which may (should) give our other pitchers more opportunities to harden up- our starters should have an more opportunities for breathers to set us up for regionals and supers. The quality of the pitching we will face the rest of the way also decreases (as the statistics show currently) which should give our hitters a chance to get on a streak or two.

You can stop trying to convince them. It won't work.

convince who? Everyone understands the reasoning behind it, it just doesn't seem like it was a good decision with the pitching staff we have.

It worked out well this time, but I wouldn't really like to see it again.

The lost art of reading comprehension!!! Or just too lazy to read the article to get the full information, b/c Mainieri had this to say

“I know I can’t do what I did with Coleman every weekend,”

? Perno said he disagreed with what PM did

Of course he did. He claims LSU over used him. He lost the 2 games that Coleman pitched in. If he had his choice, I am pretty sure he would have liked Mainieri not to pitch him at all during those 3 innings of game 1 or the 8 innings in game 3.

It wasn't until Coleman left the game on Friday, that Georgia struck for 3 runs in the ninth. Move those 3 runs up a couple of innings, there is no telling what the outcome of the game would have been without the ability to bring Coleman into the game. I am betting all the Georgia players, fans and Perno would have loved if Mainieri would have made the decision not to use Coleman when he did.

To have a guy like Coleman whose delivery puts high stress on his elbow throw 150+ pitches in one weekend just isn't a good idea. Even if it makes tactical sense, you're just begging for something bad to happen.

It shouldn't ever happen.

you really think we would have put in Nicholson in the 7th inning?

I don't know who Mainieri would have put into the game at that point. He is the coach. He is in the dugout. He knows who's available and who's right for that moment. As he stated, he was already down 1 relief pitcher in Bradshaw. I don't pretend to know what is best for the team and he has all the information available at that moment to make the decision for LSU to win. Thus, whoever he decided to bring in would be OK with me. I am not one who tries to Monday Quarterback every decision a coach makes.
