a BP session before a game at the CWS(or just late in the season in general) is a little different than a practice during the week and especially one in the preseason
This is going to hurt like hell for me to say this, but I agree with Lester.

we haven't been that dominating since skip left. you can't dominate when you are starting three freshman pitchers and you have a schizophrenic closer. we missed out on a LOT of kids going pro. Von Rosenburg and Zach Lee were huge losses. it takes a couple years to come back. like football, we will be competing for a national championship again soon. Gausman and McCune are the real deal.

Kudos to Maineri for standing up and admitting what he has let happen. I am happy he is now dedicating himself to actually being a head coach. The question is why did it take him so long to figure out the problem. Hopefully it is not too late to turn around the ship. He is now taking decisive action, but it should never have come to this.

Don't give him too much credit ... those comments have all the signs of someone who's just been told "If you have another season like this, you're fired". So now he's taking measures to make sure he has control of things.

Agreed, but we had some momentum after beating Texas in Omaha.

really though, what he said could be grounds for termination in some cases. Imagine if we hadnt won the title. It kind of gives him a pass, but still pretty weird to see him admit it.

When Skip was here, he would only be out there half the time they were practicing. His assistants did just about everything. Obviously though, that model doesn't work for everyone.

I don't think we have any coaches like Turtle Thomas. I've heard camp stories of him going ape shite on kids. You have to have one assistant who is the hard arse disciplinarian. Some head coaches are threatened by strong assistants.

As long as taking control means making it deep into post season play I'm ok with that. Win and CPM will a good coach. Keep doing the same as the last two years, not so good.

hope he has his hunger back. PM is still a good manager and i believe we are lucky to have him. i believe he has learned his lessons and we will see a more prepared team next season.

Agreed LE. And what REALLY pisses me off is that if you are going to rely and delegate so much to your assistants...then frickING HIRE THE BEST YOU CAN GET! Don't promote your godson and put a guy with a career hitting background as pitching coach.

I am a Mainieri guy, but shite Paul, use your head. Delegating is fine if you have top notch assistants (Rooney and Godwin).

here's my beef with CPM. Soon after the national championship he failed to show or was late for some baseball function ( I don't remember the details). He was attending some type of festivity and missed or was late for practice. It urked me then. I saw him as soaking up too much of the high without being focused for the future. I told my wife at that time that I was concerned. Let's just say he was not Sabanesque in his approach after winning. Not even close.

I believe PM has a great knowledge of baseball, is likely a good manager, but he will have to take a more "hands-on" approach if he is going to be successful in the SEC. The coaches in this league are almost always some of the best. If not, they don't stay long. Notre Dame may have been a country club for the head coach, but that won't cut it at LSU. They didn't become a baseball national power by having lackadaisical coaching.

Here's to a return to great baseball!

Skip's assistants > Maineri's assistants

That is a 100% fact. Skip recruited who he wanted, had his assistants out there coach em up and then Skip managed a game by letting his gorillas pound the ball.

Don't know why Maineri doesn't do like he did in 2009. Load the lineup with HR hitters(everyone had at least 5, and we had 5 ppl with 10+). It worked for Skip, and it worked him also.
