Willis started that program from the ground up,
WRONG
Coach David Russo was the one who started the program from absolute scratch. I played on the 1st team so I do know what I'm talkin about. Most players who were there the year before the program began, he would some of the players who he knew he wanted out there helpin him get the field and everything in line and ready. I played at BPCC the year before but remember them tellin us how they got everything started.
Willis deserves credit for making them the powerhouse they are, but he did not start the program himself

As a former LSUE player I can tell you that Division II NJCAA baseball is significantly weaker than Division I NJCAA baseball.
The reason for this is that all Junior Colleges in the baseball-rich states of Florida, Texas, and California compete in Division I (California actually has its own organization, the CCCAA).
Division II NJCAA baseball is mainly comprised of northern JUCOs from states with weak high school baseball such as Iowa and Illinois.
One exception is Mississippi, but they have 15 JUCOs so the talent is diluted compared to Louisiana which only has 4.
A baseball national championship that does not include schools from the states of Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, Tennesee, Arkansas, South Carolina, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and several other states has to be viewed in context.

Why doesn't LSUE jump up to Division I.
I went to that cow pasture school back in 94-95. I am happy to see it growing.

I don't know, they may not be able to compete at the Juco D-1 level.
Those aren't cow pastures, they're mostly rice fields and crawfish ponds.

I've only met Coach Willis a couple of times, but he seems like a class individual. The first time was Oct 2006 in the hospital in Lafayette. We made a flying trip to be with the Jaeger's the day of Bryan's accident. The way he handled the accident and the team was exemplary.
i do not think he will leave unless he gets the perfect job. Since that probably includes being able to make decisions that he feels are best for the program and the players (as well as picking the players he wants), he'll stay a bengal.

I played on the 1st team. I swear he didn't have a clue how to coach baseball. I played for the SLU coach at BPCC and it was night and day difference in how to run a program.
I have never met Willis but what from what I get from him as a coach, LSUE would have more than 3 NC if he would have been their from the start. We were loaded but we ran over coach russo and found partying a hell of alot more fun than playin for him.

Yeah we should've won the first of the national championships my freshman year in '04, a few blunders and bad breaks left us in third. We were the first LSUE team to participate in the d2 World Series. Only D2 team that could really give us true competition every year was Pearl River. Me and Willis didnt always see eye to eye on everything, but everyone that ever played for him will tell you they respected him. Seems to have a knack for pushing his players to the best of their abilities, has a Saban-like coaching style and work ethic. Hold's his players to pretty high standards as well, would have his assistant coaches visit bars and apartments at night periodically to make sure everyone was staying in line. Honestly, the only thing that truely bothered me with the whole situation at LSUE has already been stated in this thread...I felt like I missed out on a good bit of playing time because I was one of very few not juicing. But I always figured if thats what it took for me to play, then it wasn' really worth it. All in all Willis is a good guy who means well for his players and team, and with the situation he has in Eunice now, it's gonna take a damn good job to lure him away.

DG3, don't be mad because Pearl River was better than y'all haha. Jay Artigues, who is at Southeastern now, came from Pearl River. Now in Mississippi JUCO, it's not normal recruiting. There are districts you can recruit from, and you can have so many out of state players(I don't remember the number...4 or 5 maybe). Now he is establishing himself at Southeastern, and I think we can all agree that he is doing a pretty good job with the resources he has. If Artigues can use a smaller school such as SELU as a stepping stone to a bigger job, why can't the LSU-E coach? Is he scared of mediocrity?

"I can't believe nobody has mentioned the boudin a the Mowata store."
A man from Texas stopped in Crowley to get gas. He asked the gas station owner what's east of here.
Rayne was the response.
He then asked the owner what do I get if I go North from here.
Mowata was the response.
The man went back to Texas.

Rockerbraves, he may be, I can only judge Coach Willis based on my limited personal experience and the families of the two players I know who played for him at LSUE.

Sorry but Johnsons or Mowata store has nothing on the boudin at the Superrette aka the slaughterhouse.
