My only beef is that I like the song and want it to stay. Anyone that says the song is lame/tired hasn't watched the crowd when it plays. My kids love dancing to it.
It stays if people mind their own business and don't worry about what other people are chanting.

Already took a lap around this one. We aren't talking conversation. We are talking about crowd chants. Dumb, irrelevant argument.

You act like changing a few words is tantamount to asking the SS to cut off their right arm.....is it really worth losing the song just to yell out a few tasteless words just so "I can be one of the cool kids?"
The "no one is going to tell me what do!" mentality is like a middle schoolers thought process.

That's because it's not a clear-cut issue of free speech. If it was, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Unless of course LSU's athletic department is just a bunch of mean mean meanines.

You're saying I'm overreacting.

My take: Mind your own language and don't worry about others'. Students will chant what they want, and you'll do nothing to stop them.

Language Police's take: Maybe it's time to take action against college students for chanting things we'd rather them not chant, even if that means installing surveillance cameras to spot and remove offenders.

You can't be on the side you're on and accuse me of overreacting. That's ridiculous.

The UN doesn't negotiate with terrorists, and neither will I. There is no good that can come from legitimizing the issue you people are pretending to take.

Funny, because the "do as I say or I'm not letting you play with my toys anymore" phase happens around preschool.

Can I be on the side I'm on and say you're taking it a bit too far?

Just like the admin can't do much to realistically stop STTDB if the students want to keep doing it, you're never going to be able to remove it's offensiveness.

Saying STTDB to your employer is against the centuries-long societal norm of not saying stupid things like that directly to your boss. Saying STTDB as part of a college football chant is perfectly in line with a more-than-a-century old societal norm that places college students chanting with colorful language at their schools' football games.

You're a hypocrite with absolutely terrible arguments.

It may or may not be a free speech in the constitutional or legal sense, but I haven't argued that. Anytime I've mentioned the principle of free speech in this thread, I've made it clear that I'm arguing it in a de facto, moral sense that in no way references a law. Ie, it is none of your business what those people over there are saying. Leave them alone and let them say what they want, and you do the same. There's a game to watch.

I did in the rest of my post. I'll sum it up as you're wasting your breath trying to tell people what is and isn't offensive to them. That is a personal choice, and is entirely subjective. If someone decides that a bunch of kids chanting STTDB is offensive to them they have every right to voice their opinion on it just like those chanting STTDB have every right to chant it.
