It will certainly be disappointing if this is not an Elite Eight team. The question is, can they get over the hump to the Final Four?
Biggest offseason disappointment—not landing a fourth skilled forward to the rotation to go with Smith, Morrow, and ADR. And no, Wolfenbarger is not a true post player. Also, not sure why Morrow is listed as a “guard” on the WBB website. She is a forward.
And this is not 1975. Kim does not do the “forward” and “center” things. She doesn’t complicate it. Her standard lineup is three front-court players and two post players.
This is the first I heard that Smith may need some break-in time. I thought she was coming out of the gate completely healthy. If that injury from that shite arse high school gym in the Caymans with those imbeciles who did not know how to wipe the floor—if that injury is lingering, then that’s going to be trouble.
But yes, you are undoubtedly looking at Shay, Williams, and Johnson in the front court with Smith and Morrow down low. The bench will sort itself out with the only sure thing that Bartlett will be holding down the end of it. It would be nice if Jada Richard could contribute meaningful minutes at point guard her freshman season, but I’d be pleasantly surprised if that happens.
So again, Elite Eight should be the expectation. Anything more is pleasant lagniappe. We will always get good transfers, but Redus or whoever needs to get their arse in gear on recruiting during the Mulkey era.
