Very incorrect.

Also, USC's OOC support that they'll play anyone in a home and home. LSU---not so much.

It would be the Death of USC... Playing Top SEC teams is out of the question for those Trojans...

As much as I despise USC, it's asinine to think or say the Trojans wouldn't do it. The one thing you have to respect about Pete Carroll is that he never backs down from a challenge. I seriously doubt we called them, and they declined. If anything, it would be the other way around.

In 2003 after the split decision

LSU and USC were trying to get a game set up and corporate sponsors were pushing but NCAA denied them...

That would have been a game...

There was one ridiculously rich guy offering each school a few million to play a game. It would not have been sanctioned by the NCAA. I'll look for the link.

NCAA says schools cannot make decision

SAN DIEGO -- Unhappy with college football's split national championship, the head of a computer company thought he could entice Southern California and LSU to play each other later this month by offering $30 million in scholarship money.

The NCAA quickly hit the "delete" button, saying there was no way such a game could be played.

Ted Waitt, chairman and CEO of Gateway Inc., which is based in the San Diego suburb of Poway, offered each school $10 million in scholarships for disadvantaged students if they'd play each other the weekend of Jan. 24-25. The winner would have gotten an additional $10 million in scholarships and $1 million in Gateway products.

"Everybody wants to see it happen," Waitt said. "It'd be fun. But everybody is afraid of the NCAA. We just want to know one good reason why this can't happen."

Waitt made his proposal in letters faxed Thursday to LSU Chancellor Mark Emmert, USC President Steven Sample and NCAA President Myles Brand.

"It's just not as simple or easy as doing that," said Wally Renfro, the senior adviser to Brand. "Decisions about postseason football are made by the membership of the association. Those two institutions would not be able to make that decision in any event.

"Right now, by the bylaws, it couldn't happen."

And the NCAA wouldn't jump even with $30 million in scholarships up for grabs?

"No," Renfro said.

Besides numerous logistical problems, games aren't allowed after Jan. 4, which was the date of the Sugar Bowl.

USC was No. 1 in both the AP media poll and USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll at the end of the regular season, but slipped behind No. 2 LSU and No. 3 Oklahoma in the computers and the final BCS standings because of a weaker strength of schedule.

LSU won the BCS national championship by beating Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl while USC won The Associated Press title by beating Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

It's not as bleak as you make it sound, but USC has certainly scheduled much better OOC games in recent times than we have.

We regularly played some excellent OOC opponents before the SEC expanded in 1992. I think Texas A&M dropped off the schedule around '95, while they were still a perenniel top 10 team. We did a home and home with Notre Dame a couple of years after that and then Va Tech in more recent years.

In general, the SEC is enough for a regular season for any team. We've got top 10 games already built in from conference play alone.

I'd love a home-home with USC though.

Since 2002 USC played Ohio State, VaTech, Auburn, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Virginia, Nebraska, BYU, Colorado, Kansas State during the regular season. Doesnt seem like they are afraid of anyone.

after the 03' fiasco, Saban asked USC to play a +1 to shut them up, but USC declined.

bullshite.

Miles has even stated as much that he didn't want to risk the bounty to play a "top program" in OOC games. Wish I'd kept the link to post everytime I saw this posted.

USC's OOC schedule speaks for itself in those regards though. Ours, not so much.

Neaux, that was Bill Gates and the NCAA wouldn't hear of it.
