LSU vs Southern Miss SECN+, PMAC, 7PM

LSU started off well Friday night defeating a pretty sound Wofford team. Coming into the season, most of the fanbase was apathetic or downright displeased with the program. Some of us "sunshine pumpers" told many people we could have a decent squad. I feel that way more than ever. I do not think this is an NCAAT type of team, but I think they could be a bubble team and potentially an NIT team.
For all of CJJ's downfalls as a coach, one thing he has always done is outperform expectations when there are none. However, his problem is that he greatly under performs when there are any expectations at all. One thing that looks great is the effort. We have several new players that seem to really battle and WANT to play.
I don't think Reath will kill SEC competition, but I can see him averaging about 12-14 with 7-8 rebounds, which is what Victor should be around, too. We just need Blakeney to start taking better shots. I'm worried about Mays and his outside shot, but man, his court vision and composure seem really special. He's big, smooth, calm...he may be my favorite player on the team already.
PROJECTED LINEUPS:
LSU-
F Duop Reath: 6'10 235
F Aaron Epps: 6'10 220
G Brandon Sampson: 6'5 193
G Antonio Blakeney: 6'4 197
G Skylar Mays: 6'4 205
Southern Miss-
F Raheem Watts 6'7 215
F Eddie Davis III 6'7 248
G Quinton Campbell 6'7 192
G Kevin Holland 6'1 175
G Cortez Edwards 6'2 170
Note, the starting lineup probably won't look this way, but this is by far their best 5. They had 2 starters play less than 20 minutes, and 4 bench players play over 20 minutes. It is a bit deceiving however, they played a Double OT game to start the season. They squeaked by NAIA school Tougaloo with a late 3 and 2 late FTs to seal the deal. This is a team that should be overmatched.
Offensively:
Southern Miss does not like to shoot the 3 ball. They were 7/14 from 3, but don't let the percentage deceive you. In a 50 minute game, they shot 14 3's...compare that to their opponent who shot 30. They had a huge advantage inside and really made an effort to get into the lane. They shot 37 FTs and made 26 for 70%. Again, it is hard to really get a gauge on a team offensively when they play an NAIA school and dominate inside.
They had 7 guys get into double figures, but no one over 15. They don't have a star, but Watts/Davis/Edwards are their best players.
Honestly, Southern Miss is not a very good team. They have beaten 1 NAIA school in double OT, another NAIA in an exhibition by not much, and a Division II school in OT. This should be a pretty easy match for LSU as long as they are somewhat focused. I expect Reath to absolutely kill it again
Prediction:
LSU: 88
USM: 65

I'll be there. Im saying Reath gets 30pts and Mays gets double double 12pts, 10 assists.

Neither would shock me. USM likes to attack the basket, complete opposite of Wofford. I like these first games are kind of giving us ability to gel.

Thx for the preview.
Any definitive answer on the length of Victor's suspension. I'd like to see him get a game under his belt before the tournament games next week

Idk how they are supposed to be this year but Southern Miss has been pretty good at basketball for a few years. Anyone know if they're supposed to be good again?

I don't know if I want to follow LSU bball this year. I put so much time and energy into watching them the past two years. They fricked me reallllll good.

Sigh....I'm still pissed off from last year.
I'll probably get back in it when we play someone worth a shite. This OOC schedule is embarrassing.
But I'm still a Tiger. 80-66 Tigers!!

what's worse, losing to NCstate in the NCAA tourny and then they make run to the sweet 16 or having Ben simmons and not making the tourny.

They're gonna be pretty garbage. Donnie Tyndal got them hit pretty hard by the NCAA. They're undersized and can't shoot. We should beat them by more than we beat Wofford.

Realization?
We are not Kentucky; we can't be Duke. We are LSU. Focus on recruiting the best players from Louisiana first.

The good thing about Mays is that he loves to get assist, a pass first guy. If LSU is going to be successful the Blakeney has to get going and be the player we thought he was going to be. Overall I think most will be pleased with this year's team.

I guessed all along Victor would be back for UNF or for Atlantis. We won't go into Atlantis without Victor playing. That first game is such a big game so we can try to play some good teams and build RPI and get exposure.
As far as being burned...we all put in effort in our own ways. I essentially put my life on hold for that team. This is a way different team. Lots of likeable players that actually seem to play hard. It's only one game, but it's exciting to see them play hard. Once Victor and Jenkins get back, this will be a downright gritty and dirty basketball team.
I loved Ben Simmons almost more than anyone. I also hated Quarterman more than almost anyone. However, I'm not allowing either of them to effect my fanhood for the team this season.

Hope SEC+ can actually stay on for the entire game this time. Wofford it was out by half time and never came back.
