I don't think I've seen this game since the original broadcast. This is the NCAA tournament victory of the Jackson/Shaq/Roberts team. Enjoy!

I went to Pizza Hut during the game and got a final four ball free with purchase of a pizza. The ball had a cool logo with Denver or Indianapolis on it, can't remember which.

I remember it being a defensive struggle that we ended up winning.

I also remember hearing this chant and I haven't been able to get it out of my brain for the last (almost) 28 years:

"Let's go Villa-nova (clap clap clapclapclap)"

What up with all of the unforced turnovers in the first half?

Too hard to watch the next game loss against Ga Tech. Wasn't Chris Jackson playing hurt that game against GT?

Chris Jackson has several bad bouts of his Tourette's that week and his doctor changed his meds and he was "out of it." My wife and I were staying in the same hotel as the team in Knoxville, TN and I spoke to an asst coach who told me that story.

I firmly believe we might well have won the NC that year (or at least made the FF) if Jackson had not gotten sick.

A 22-5 lead against Georgia Tech in the first half of the second round... Damn it.

It was the most beautiful first half of a first-half I had ever seen LSU play. Stanley and Shaq were swatting everything down low and Dennis Scott couldn't hit the back side of a barn until the second half. Brian Oliver was getting schooled. Vernel? Mo, Shaq, and Stanley were all scoring. Chris had an early 3 but after that... Very cold.

Kenny Anderson kept that team in the game. That son-of-a-bitch was that good as a point guard. He did to Chris Jackson what Tim Hardaway did to him the year before out in Tuscon.

What's amazing to me is how far we have come with the coverage of college basketball. This must have been the last year ESPN was covering some of the first round games because I remember Brad nessler and Tommy heinsohn had our next round game against Georgia Tech.

IIRC, Jackson was taking Haldol to control his Tourette's. That medicine is a sedative by nature.

I forgot how good/polished Stanley Roberts was. He was so big and talented. Shaq was a defensive force and so athletic as a Freshman but still needed to develop offensively. If Roberts would have just stayed focused and stayed in school...

I'm not real familiar with Tourette's, other than how Hollywood tries to make a joke about it when it's a serious illness, but I wonder what triggered Chris's tourette's to the point the team doctor had to change his medication.

I wonder if the pressure of the NCAAT made it worse for Chris.

at the time there were only two four-year all-city hs basketball players in nyc history - kenny anderson and lew alcindor. anderson was an amazing pg.
