I do feel like we are nowhere near as talented in terms of personnel today as we were in 2016 on that side of the ball.

Part of me wonders. Did it get hard to land top defensive talent when kids started to give up on our offense? I say that as a note of optimism. Maybe kids will want to play defense for us now that they know they don't have to carry the team.

I def see your point. Our fans aren’t happy unless we complain about something. Next it will be the uniforms .

So what do you think the problem is? The man didn’t suddenly forget how to coach. Does he not have the right personnel for the scheme he runs or is his scheme just not effective because opposing coaches have figured him out? If it’s the players not knowing their assignments this late in the season, then we are in trouble because from where I’m sitting, there doesn’t look to be a lot of disguised coverages or misdirection with this scheme. If the problem is coaching, then Orgeron needs to have a talk with him. He’s getting paid way to much money to put such a poor product on the field.

The way you interpret is up to you.

Who gives a F@#K? Has little to do with a steady decline in LSU's defensive statistics over Dave Aranda's tenure.

That is not a positive trend. We were warned before the season that other coaches were on to what Aranda was doing.

My personal opinion: Teams have figured him out, along with some key defensive injuries hitting the team.

He's a young guy, I think he figures out what to change....

So, we got a hell of lot better on offense, that scores at will, and our defense has dropped a bit. But they get the job done. Yes concerning, but 10-0 this year, beat Bama, looking to 12-0 and the seccg. We as a fan base need to be more supportive and stop bringing the team down with every little thing.

My OP was not bringing the team down.

I posted simple stats. You can interpret / project however you wish.

Rankings have nothing to do with it. What if we were a running team and kept possession of ball forever. Then team could rest on sideline. Fast tempo is going to give other teams more possessions and defense less time to rest . Did you see Lawrence on sideline in 4 th quarter , dude was exhausted.

Just for fun. If that trend continued, in three years LSU's D would be dead last!

2016 5
2017 14
2018 26
2019 44
2020 68
2021 98
2022 130

Not to start the season. LSU's defense manhandled a decent Georgia Southern team, and also Texas in the first half of their game. It was the spate of injuries during the 2nd half of Texas that has impacted the defense unfavorably, and it continues.

I think Dave is encouraged to find greener pastures after this year
