I'm sure there are many members of that selection committee who have wanted to do that to LSU for almost 20 years. I don't think Bertman could have done anything about it. The committee wanted LSU to travel across the country and also guarantee that LSU's fans won't travel in droves and take over the arena.
I also think that the only other place LSU would have gone was the Fullerton State regional. How many times has Fullerton come to LSU? Doesn't surprise me at all. Same thing as the 2009 NCAA Basketball Tourney selection.
NCAA hates LSU.

I look at it like this. This LSU team won 18 SEC games this year. This win total of course, includes SEC tourney. Still...Defending National Champs. Our RPI must have climbed after the SEC tourney ? right ? That's o.k. Maybe within the next few years, we can win the SEC outright and stick it up the arse of the NCAA selection committee.
I do agree we needed to do more, after the meltdown of a month ago, but still. the SEC Tourney doesn't get you a regional closer to home where your fans can make the trip ?
