so if Pendergast falls through, is Coach O our next option?

I hope we get Pendergast but I'm just wondering.
Bob Shoop is very much in play.

I can believe this. If LSU can get him it would be a coup. I think that he is from the Pennsylvania area. Auburn reached out to him when he was at Vandy.

So LSU wasn't willing to go to $1.7 on Chavis, but willing to buy out Muschamp then pay him more than $1.7?

I can see it. its about value, youre getting a DC thats just as good plus a recruiter. if Chavis wanted to get paid for 2 jobs, he should have done two jobs.

also, our hand has kind of been forced. this hire would eclipse TAMs hire a thousand fold.

Chavis wanted the clause removed because he didn't want his contract voided if Miles was gone.

Are we arguing for the same point?

I'm saying that most coordinators have a "if we fire or lose our coach you realize the new coach may not retain you" clause.

Am I misunderstanding the "miles clause?"

some thoughts on reddit from USC fans. and these are not cherry-picked, its literally every post from the USC fans:

Pendergast is a great DC. We thought we'd be getting something better with Wilcox but I think most USC fans would agree we'd rather have Pendergast back.

Good pick up, Tigers. Clancy got kind of jobbed here last season. He's a damn good coach.

in response to what his weaknesses might be:

He can leave holes for passing plays but that might just be us. He's not really known for his recruiting though. To my dismay, it's likely that he tries to get Coach O, and I know Coach O would like to be in Louisiana closer to his family.

Hates recruiting. Knows his X's and O's and is great at making in game adjustments, but if there's one thing he doesn't like, it's definitely recruiting.

He's amazing. In terms of weaknesses, aside from the already mentioned recruiting issues, I would say he's good for 1-2 brain fart games per season. Look at our game against ASU last season, for example. His defense got totally rolled and looked unprepared. If you can live with one bad game, however, he's tremendous the rest of the time.
