They rank on value, efficiency, etc. So one could say we are as high as we are because our draft picks don't go as high as they should based on their performance in the NFL. I suppose it's a good recruiting tool, but I could use it against LSU if I were a recruiter for another school.
^This
I take this as a negative for recruiting because it basically means that on average LSU players don't get drafted as high as others who produce the same amount in the pros. Which means they were a better value at the draft because they were picked lower....
However, as someone else stated, I would bet the house that if the stats only went back 10-15 years LSU would not be in the top 21.

Isn't this bad for recruiting? You will get drafted LOWER than the value you bring?
EXACTLY!!!

Actually they are ranked #1 in VAE stat only and ranked #7 in ROI stat.
Eta: Still not good though

So, wait, y'all actually think a reasonable argument can be made that it's LSU's fault that the NFL underrated the ability of LSU's players? When that is the NFL teams' jobs? Look at the examples they gave: Casanova, three time all-American. Dom Davis, shined plenty on the field at LSU, including a HUGE Sugar Bowl. Eric Martin was highly visable at LSU. So because players like these were better prepared players after LSU than their physical measurables, a case can be made that LSU messed up?!? That is the argument of a person with brain damage.

All we are saying is that based on this article LSU players are drafted lower than average based on their production in the NFL. Which is why they are a Better value on draft day. How do you not see this?
So you are going to tell a recruit that he won't be drafted as high as a comparable player from USCw but you will produce more than him in the NFL (hooray for moral victories). That could be used against LSU because rival schools can say that they get their guys drafted higher regardless of how their NFL career pans out. If you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you.
A good example is Matt Flynn vs. Matt Leinart. I think most people today will agree that Flynn is a better QB but Leinart made way more money than Flynn did (or ever will IMO) because he was drafted way higher.
Great Bay (the team) got the better value with Flynn but Leinart (the player/former HS recruit) got drafted higher and made way more money.
Eta: I don't think its necessarily LSU's fault but for one reason or another this article proves that LSU players are drafted lower which gives NFL teams a better value.
But I see your point that it could be perceived that LSU players that get drafted tend to over-achieve once they are in the league. You can spin it either way I guess but I'd rather get drafted higher. I'd rather be over appreciated than under appreciated on draft day.
