they're way better than last yr.

Is that really so hard to do, considering last years performance? When you're on the bottom, ain't but one way to go-up!

100% correct. Our O-line is soft and has ZERO mean streak. Compare to the bama line which is just plain mean. Too much attrition, Too little good coaching and limited talent.
Look at the lines from 2003 to 2007 at LSU. we had some tough dudes--Peterman, Whitworth, Arnold (before he was hurt), Big Herm.
Our guys--God Bless them they play hard-- but they are just too soft mentally, physically and coaching-wise to dominate ANYONE, especially teams in the SEC.
If the O-line performed, many of our other offensive troubles would not necessarily be eliminated , but would be greatly diminished.

How quickly we forget Marcus Randall.

Bull. Randall was infinitely better than Jefferson. Good? No. But not Jefferson-bad.

it seems clear that we need a new OL coach. our OL recruiting hasn't been that great going back to 2006.

If I remember correctly, 2007 OL returned 3 starters from 2006 OL that turned it on to finish the season with Searles as our coach and Helms at Center.

In 2008 still had 4 of 5 starters return with Helms and was pretty decent run blocking but weak at pass blocking again with Helms at center.

In 2009, returned 3 of 5 starters but not helms and started T-Bob at center who was undersized and coming off an injury. NO leadership from him or Black.

In 2010, new center + 3 returning starters if you count T-Bob.

Again, no leadership with plenty of people slobbing T-Bob's knob for knockdowns yet ignoring him continually getting burned on crucial plays all season long.

There is no leadership and poor technique with this line which is why they struggle against teams like McNeese.

Studs lines were largely successful based on the leadership of Helms. When he left, even Black was mentioning there was no leadership on the line.

He was referring leadership at the center spot, but I wasn't a person that thought Black was a great leader. Hebert was horrible at calling out protections last year. His advantage this year is he's not the center calling out the protection changes.

Somehow he still manages to get blown up or blown by a ton despite his great "knockdown block" stats.
