And it is a lot easier for them to see him in is habitat than in that trailer unless you are very close to the field. At some point all you see is a cage and silhouette of a cat. If his sole purpose is for viewing pleasure then that is best seen in his habitat.

At this stage, a zoo would not take him. Zoos need to turn a profit and this cat could not make a zoo any money. Most zoos would put an animal down once they find out it has a terminal disease like this. Roscoe is going to get radiation therapy that no other entity would provide and he will be studied in the process in order to benefit the Tiger species as a whole. Mike is officially retired in that cage and will be replaced when he is gone. He will continue to receive the grade A classy treatment he deserves and that is bestowed to all LSU Tiger Mascots.

Have you seen that full video? Those Indians are hunting that tiger on elephant back. They have taken multiple gun shots at this point and clearly didn't get a good hit on him. The tiger disappears into his "grassy element" to sneak up on them and look what that beast does. He had had enough of that sh!t and was going to put an end to play time...In my opinion, truly one of the most magnificent creatures on this planet.

Mike has lived in that habitat for several years and that's probably the only habitat he remembers. I'm pretty sure he's happy there. With him being sick now, it would be stupid to be put him in a zoo or anywhere else that is unfamiliar to him. Just let him stay where the vet school will keep taking care of him 24/7. And all the people bitching about him not going into a cage at games need to STFU too. It's not about you. If Mike doesn't want to be in a cage, he ain't gonna be in a cage. He should do what makes him feel comfortable. Deal with it.

But the trailer business at games should end for good, with this Tiger and any future one.

That's completely crazy. That's his job.

Well, it was a "she" and she had cubs. The villagers were concerned about a tiger and her cubs potentially attacking folks and their cattle. They called the wildlife folks. They intended to tranquilize and relocate the tiger and her cubs. She decided she was still a tiger.

Completely agree - look at the leap. It makes that San Francisco Zoo incident make a lot of sense. Minimum standards for tiger enclosures in the U.S. are something like 12 feet (which was the case in SF), but 15 feet is recommended because you get a light female or juvenile tiger, under ideal circumstances they can exceed 12 feet (particularly if they have someone or something to grab onto).

To the OP, stick to what you know which apparently isn't the care of big cats!

The only reason should be that if not one of the best big cat habitats in the world it is the best. Would you rather him be in the wild where they are being poached daily and on the brink of extinction? 1A is the fact that he is our mascot and he is treated like a freaking king! This Tiger is not a wild Tiger, never was never will be. He knows no different then a pet cat or dog that you would have in your home.

I agree any other discussion on this is just freaking stupid and no it's not his job numb nuts! Just like some dogs like to ride in cars and some don't!

His main purpose is to get the crowd pumped up for a football game. Its one of college football's best traditions. He doesnt do that. Needs to be retired. Especially now that he's sick.

Let the team that's has taken care of him keep on. They said the treatments could extend his life 2 or 3 yrs. Just let them continue to care for him.

This is one of the more ridiculous logical leaps I've seen on here. Yeah, his $20M enclosure with a pool and a soundproof cave he can retreat to if he's stressed is no different than a 4x6' trailer surrounded by 100 thousand drunk screaming football fans. Maybe we should tie him up at the top of the indian mounds and let those kids throw shite at him, you know, since he's in captivity anyway. fricking retard.

Honest question, are you being facetious? Do you load up your dog in the car? Does he like it or dislike it? If he dislikes it, why do you force him into the car?

Honest answer: You can't even say "ride in the car" without his going berserk. He lives for "loading up" and takin' a ride. He is by breeding a hunting dog so he thinks he's going out for a hunt. Seriously.

I'm sure there are plenty of dogs who don't like being taken out of their element, but not this one. Actually I feel bad if we go 3-4 days without taking him for a ride and sometimes will just load him up and drive him around the neighborhood for a few minutes.

Being forced to sit in a travel cage is no different than being forced to live in captivity.

You seriously can't believe this, right?

95,000 screaming people surrounding you while he's in a tiny cage that is vibrating from the noise on the field is the same as his 15,000 sq. foot habitat with thick walls and room to roam with a fraction of the people walking around it at ground level?

quote:

Why aren't you asking to have him released into the jungles of SE Asia? That's where tigers truly belong.

He would die. Period. Tigers born in captivity cannot be released into the wild successfully.

Retire him? Does he have a job now? I never had a problem with his reluctance to get into a trailer on gameday. It was Mike saying "I'm a tiger, not a dancing monkey. F off".

He lives the cushiest life of just about any tiger alive. Why pull him from his home and vets who adore him now?

Exactly.

He's never seen a gaur or water buffalo or had to find his own water in his life.

I am pretty sure Mike is used to people by now, considering he has been around people since the second he was born.
