The words Alleva and lacrosse should never be mentioned in the same sentence. Well I just did it. Okay, after this one.......

Club sports are totally separate from the LSU Athletic Department right?

Correct. Zero funding comes from the athletic department. In most cases, the club teams arw self funded save for some assistance from the LSU UREC by way of fields, AT staff, & some budget help of approx. no more than $2000/season.
Everything else is raised by the players/coaches to operate at a respectable level compared to other college club teams.

In the case of men's lacrosse, an operating budget of at least $15,000 for a season is necessary for uniforms, equipment, travel/hotel, league dues, coach pay, etc.

My bro played club lacrosse prob over 10 years ago at LSU. I remember him telling me they would sleep in their cars when they went to away games.

I bet I know him. Glad to see the team has come as far as it has. I remember we were the first team to get legit gear. Regardless of how good we were or weren't, its tough to make uniforms look bad in purple and gold.

Nice to see the teaming improving. It would be nice to see the team make a run at winning their conference (LSA?). What are dues like at LSU for lacrosse? I know the local Colorado schools are paying ~$2500 a year.

Wow, that's a lot to play a sport. If I had to spitball Id guess their dues are around $500. Should be much less for club sports at LSU considering how much students pay in REC fees.

LSA Playoffs have been reached the last couple of seasons. Texas St is the current foe in the way. They're pre-season Top 25 this season & looking to win the title to get back to the National Tourney again.

You're right on with the Colorado schools. Some in the LSA are in the $2000 ballpark. Last time I asked, LSU was around $1200-$1400/player.

In my day I think the most we laid down was $600-$700.

Take a look at MCLA. You might be surprised at the number of club teams that compete in Division 1 & 2 of the club world.

The NAIA just pulled 27 schools out for their own level of play that used to be roped in with MCLA.

LSU UREC provides essentially a bare minimum of financial support. On top of that, fields are rarely lined for practices (more important than you'd think for lacrosse, rugby, soccer, etc). They (UREC) also severely handicap the teams when they try to create apparel & things to sell to help raise funds. It often takes an entire semester to try to have something approved & by then it's a lost cause because the money that was needed was for something during the season, not after. Such as ref fees, hotel/travel, tournament entry fees, etc.

Lastly, teams are responsible for paying coaches. Extremely hard to find a quality coach stick around for multiple seasons as a volunteer...

Yeah, I know how it is. My dad's been the rugby coach for the past 10 seasons. Top 25 in the country year in and year out. His salary.... $0. I guess you can count the hotels and travel for road games which he gets reimbursed for. But that's still only a couple hundred dollars.

Rugby players and Lacrosse guys may have our differences but we can all agree on one thing. F- the UREC!

Eta: And screw the UREC field nazis. Oh it rained 2 days ago we don't want you to tear up the field.
