Yea I'd imagine so, I mean it is a recognizable name, but to be honest if you have a degree from anywhere its looked good upon, we just can't have LSU looked about negatively on the academic side. Right now we are a neutral, so your degree won't really help you get any jobs that a great college would. But people won't look at the degree and laugh at it, which i know some schools are

I agree with the person who says the state of louisiana is doing a horrible job of keeping its college educated in state. Most of us in order to make a descent living leave our beloved home state signed Jacksonville, fl.

You do realize that nearly every state budget in the US is being cut. Right?

Really I thought the Dow was still around 14,000. Its just that Jindal and Zenegger are the only two states I hear about cutting education, probably because I am not looking for this information either

Give me FY 2010. Louisiana isn't even on this list. I'll put money on it that nearly every state is going to have a shortfall in FY 2010.

For a state like Louisiana that ranks last in pretty much everything or next to last. Education should be the last thing to be cut.

I still disagree vehemently. For too long people have expected LSU to cut back when there's just nowhere to cut from. Everything cut is pretty big when the funding is already historically low. (See my post at the top of this page.)

LSU consistantly tries to model itself after the top 10 research schools in the country. When compared to the 10 LSU has the most assisant chancellor, vice provost, etc....In some cases they have assistant to the assistant <<insert job title>> some waste in higher up job titles and all make over 200K

LSU is still buying land and looking to buy the lamar dixon arena. Many things are in the works.

However we do agree fully that cutting graduate assistantships will have the largest impact. Less TA's, student/faculty ratio will balloon.

They will also be cutting all graduate student phone lines to their offices. LSU can save an extra $18.50 per line that way. Exceptions are allowed for those TA'ing but thats on a case by case basis.

I'm glad LSU has finally woken up a little bit and starting to question Jindals thinking. The new blood in Chancellor and other positions is starting to change that.

thanks to these budget cuts, i will probably lose my board of supervisors schollie and my financial aid job. but im glad we worry that our athletics program is ok before we look at education. Nice to see that we get a new baseball stadiums, yet some places on campus look like shite. i love LSU but i swear the priorities are not where they need to be. Guess if i was an athlete i wouldnt have anything to worry about tho. I mean, since they all leave school early most of the time and dont even finish school. Not bitching, just needed to vent lol. Whew! Geaux Tigers '09!!!!

please keep in mind that LSU athletics is completely separate from the academic side of the university.

LSU athletics is sole funded by itself and recieves zero dollars from the university. Only 3 schools in the entire country can say that.

On top of that Athletics gives the university money something like 3-5M each year just because the athletes use the facilities. This past year LSU athletics had to give even more because of the shortfall on the academic side.

LSU athletics pays for parking lots and various other campus improvements.

I get your point. However, when you make a point about being educated, you should make sure you spell "decent" correctly. Otherwise, you "descend" into the realm of the uneducated ranter.

Wait so you are telling me if LSU didnt run the athletic program, that the University would get less money than if TAF runs it?? That is Bull shite! And I wish it wasn't run by TAF so LSU could use ALL the revenue from the athletic program to help out the Academic side of LSU! And then when have situations like these budget cuts, you can CUT some stuff in the ATHLETIC department instead of the ACADEMIC side.

Because I think everyone agrees here that Academics is WAY more important than ATHLETICS
