It's pretty obvious evidence LSU's schedule was tougher
Never said it wasn't. But wva putting those kind of #'s was a fail by the LSU secondary. AND WVA turned out to be a shite team. FACT. I highly doubt WVA puts up 400 yda passing on ole nicky boy.

Apples to oranges. You're comparing a senior-laden defense...who we've established didn't play a tough schedule by any definition of the word...against a sophomore-laden defense.
Fact. I highly doubt WVU puts those numbers up against LSU NOW.
How do I know that? Check out whose secondary was the first ever with two first team CB's.

You sure about that? I don't have a doubt in my mind that they would give bama problems. I also think it was a game of exhaustion, we were on the back end of the hardest September I can remember, we were barely getting ANY pressure and we never blitzed. Boys were tired and they were sky high.
If bama was In the same situation, there very well could be the same result.

Thats fine and well deserved. My whole point is taht you are saying LSU has played awesome offenses and that is just not the case. They haven't played the likes of Stanford,Okie St. USC,Oklahoma and such.

Link? Here's what I said:

LSU faced good offenses in Oregon, WVU, Arkansas, and UGA. Alabama faced Arkansas. In your immortal words "OK who else??"...
Feel free to point out the part that isn't true.

Yeah i have a MS State fan who was giving me $hit b/4 the first game saying that Alabama's D was so much better than ours. So we did a positional breakdown...and when we got to DB's, he said it was no contest that Alabama had by far the best secondary in the country. His comment was they have 4 players in their secondary that will be drafted in the 1st round next year and you guys only have 1. I said, the reason our guys are not on that ESPN list that you are referring to is b/c our guys are sophomores!
Your friend is an idiot. Bama with not have 4 secondary players in the 1st

I don't know if any of you remember Phelon Jones? He was recruited by LSU out of Alabama and couldn't get on the field at LSU and realized that he wasn't talented enough or whatever the case was, and transferred to BAMA...he sat out is sophomore year and has gotten a lot of playing time in his junior and senior seasons--even started a few games in the secondary for the gumps...
so I think our secondary is a little better if a guy that wasn't good enough to play for us is playing for BAMA

The only place I see an advantage when comparing the defenses is in the secondary. Before the 11/5 game I was sying Bama's LB's are slow and that game proved it. Great run stuffers between the tackles, mediocre at everything else. LSU's LB's are way better than the conventional wisdom rates them. Both D-Lines are great. Bama's secondary is very good, but there is no one in their secondary who should be considered for AA much less get selected. LSU has a truly elite secondary. We have three guys in our secondary better than anyone in Bama's and our fourth, Taylor, is just as good as their best. Bama's defense is VERY well coached, though.

You do realize Dre is projected as a top 20 draft pick ,right? So LSU has 4 top 20 draft picks?

I would say probably 3... Mo, Mathieu and Reid. Simon could go first round as well if he continues to develop. So yeah.

I love the way this guy plays but you really think he is a top 20 draft pick?

Did you really think Tebow or Ponder (yes I realize qb to cb is a difficult comparison) would be top 20 draft picks?
His size may be an issue, but you can't deny that he is a playmaker at CB and he played well at safety.
He is a first team all American player. To answer your question, I think it is possible. This is all speculation besides Mo anyway.

Okay, let's assume he plays comparably to this year, but doesn't improve, that means he's in Heisman contention in 2012 - and if he's not a Top 20 projected pick - he returns for his senior season where he breaks all kinds of records for forced fumbles, recoveries - defensive touchdowns, and I'm also assuming he continues his level of play as a return man and special teams player. So he gets Heisman consideration perhaps a 3rd year (may depend on the team's success at that point) -
His height isn't going to change at all and his weight isn't going to help him at the combine. He's fast, but not world-class fast. But the film on him will be through the roof - it's possible he will go in the top 20 picks of the draft based on a combination of his playmaking ability and return ability. If he does, it will not be "purely" based on his ability as a CB, but he's potentially a very high draft pick because he's a human highlight reel and there are damned few of those on the defensive side of the ball.

a shorter version of Ed Reed is what I use to describe Mathieu.
Posted on 12/15/11 at 4:41 pm to tubucoco
Mathieu is a legit top 20 pick
a la Tim Tebow
