quote:D Bowe is the only offensive player that you hear about on a week in/week out basis that has played mostly under Miles and is a franchise player. (I know that other O players are on rosters, but they aren't impact players).
However, we are not developing our offensive players and teaching them to be successful within this system
Sad really, for Miles, but it speaks volumes about his mentality. He doesn't have a good offensive philosophy and he also doesn't develop offensive players for the next level.
Miles plays a 'college game with college players', built for the here and now. It's a short game, not a long game.

I think the premise of the OP was that Les hasn't done a good job recruiting/developing OL as evidenced by the fact that "LSU has no active NFL OL who finished college after 2005" (but as noted above Barksdale may still be in the NFL).
I don't think this tells the whole story by any means. Ciron Black was a projected 1/2 rd pick as Jr. He chose to return in '09, was hurt, and no NFL career. Similarly, Will Arnold (although a Saban recruit) was a projected 5th rd pick after his soph. season had he intended to come out after '06; alas, injuries. Big Herm played some for the Cards.
My point is that trying to judge a coach's performance in CFB by OL performance in the NFL is flawed.
OL typcially arrive in recruting classes with 3-5 others. There will already be 10-15 OL on roster. Because it's a physical position there's a lot of attrition due to injuries. Others have to decide if they want to stick it out 2-3 years before they'll ever see the field or assume a permanent backup role (think Greg Shaw or Carnell Stewart) or transfer out (e.g., Singleton, Matt Allen, or McCoy). Because of the high attrition/injury rate that 'comes with the territory' I don't see this as a good metric for evaluating Les.
I think we are into our 4th "offensive philosophy" since Les arrived:
1) Jimbo ('05-'06) - same as Saban
2) Crowton I ('07-'08) - totally GC's approach (fast-n-loose)
3) Crowton II ('09-'10) - Les approach/Crowton playcalling (very conservative).
4) Stud-thorpe ('11-present) - 8 weeks of one thing and another 5 of another.
But I agree that our approaches to O have not been conducive to showcasing skill position players. IMO, Rueben Randle, Terrence Toliver, Keiland were all under-utilized.
