On defense, next season’s breakout star will be Texas Tech transfer Breiden Fehoko. Fehoko will have the ability to play defensive end or nose tackle for the Tigers. Though he’s a fit for the middle, he’s versatile enough that we could see Fehoko bookending the line at times with Rashard Lawrence while massive freshman Tyler Shelvin fills up the middle.

My breakout pick on offense? Wide receiver Jonathan Giles. Giles was a 1,000-yard receiver as a sophomore at Texas Tech last season. Guys such as Stephen Sullivan, Drake Davis and Dee Anderson look like potential deep threats for the Tigers next season. But Giles could be that guy who makes the intermediate passing gain really click, either by being the guy who grabs passes over the middle or being the one who turns short and medium throws into big gains.

Thank you Texas Tech.

I would add Brennan on offense and Chaisson on defense.

It'll get transferred over there, don't worry, but yeah Fehoko is a strong player that gets penetration in the backfield. I will personally be happy to see him replace sad, sorry vet DLineman Lacouture and Gilmore. I've never seen two experienced DLineman at LSU so ineffective.

And I hope the ball is thrown with more regularity, otherwise, Giles will be frustrated.

Yeah id like to know in the 2 or 3 years while at LSU how many tackles they have made in the backfield. I'd guess there were not many

Chaisson on defense.
Chaisson is probably very overrated, but that dline is going to be so unbelievably good that the edge rushers are going to have so many opportunities. With that in mind, though, if the front 3 are getting a lot of pressure on qbs, we might not see a ton of blitzing, especially from inside lbers.

Funny you should ask. This season Gilmore and Lacouture are tied for team lead in sacks (5.5 each) and tied for 2nd in TFL (7.0 - White has 8.5). Also Lacouture is 2nd on the team in tackles and Gilmore is 6th.

I really like Stephen Sullivan. We don't use him nearly enough.

Those two held this fricking DLine together and have stepped their play up this year.

Gilmore is being asked to play a position he is 40 pounds underweight for.

The defense overall hasn't been impressive like years past, especially last season. They have been up and down, stats do not tell the whole story. White has been impressive this season, but even he has stumbled on occasions. Him and Battle looked terrible in whiffing on that should have been sacked effort on Bama's Hurt. Lacouture may be second, but that just tells me how bad the D has been this season that a D tackle is second on the team in tackles. I have watched Lacouture and Gilmore, they just aren't good D tackles imo, average at best and will be drafted low in the NFL draft. But I think the guys taking over after them starting next season will be real good and the defense will be much improved next season.

I don't agree, they were average at best, and don't tell me that shite about Gilmore is asked to play a position that is he 40 pounds too light for. He wasn't good last season when he was just playing regular DT, but he did improve some. I'm anxious to see the young guys behind them, they will be more effective. People are too sensitive to criticism of a LSU player or players.

1. He played NT last year not DT, and he has played better this years. We were a 3-4 defense last year too.

2. You don’t have to agree. They played like 85% of defensive snaps for a large stretch of games. Without them we just don’t have a defensive line. And the defense has still been good.

He alternated between NT and DT, Alexander played some NT last season, but I mean I've seen Gilmore get blowed off the line on more than one occasion. An overhyped Valentine was more effective than him in the few games he played when he was at LSU. Don't get me wrong, I mean as I said Gilmore has improved, but he's average at best. And I am not saying the defense was bad, just up and down because of inexperience. Lacouture and Gilmore were needed this season because of lack of depth this season, but next season I think they will be much better.

if your DT is 2nd in tackles that is actually a very good thing, as opposed to your FS being 2nd.

Guys are not getting very far from the LOS if your DT is 2nd in tackles, just sayin...

You mean SS, but I somewhat agree with you. LB'ers should always be high in tackles, and SS should be behind them, a DT should be following them. Strong safeties make tackles downfield on receivers as well as in the box backing up linebackers.
