I refuse to rank an Iowa team in the top 10 after seeing their performances against Northern Iowa and Arkansas State...Sorry just cant do it
I'm with you on this. The win at Penn State was nice, but those two games you listed should have been blowouts and Iowa looked awful.
If they keep winning, eventually I will have to put them in the top 10. However, there are better options right now.

Why all the love for Oregon?
Why not? Their only loss is at Boise, and they have looked like a totally different team since then. They've earned it.

looks about right. I know nothing about Cincinnati but they do play at South Florida this weekend, the team that upset FSU.
Boise? Something about OU brings out the best in Boise lol. Oklahoma. Wham. Oregon. Smashed.
Poll looks accurate as of yesterday

Actually, its on Thursday night on national TV. Time to find out if they are legit again this year.

Only loss was on the road to another top 10 team and they have had victories over Utah, California (blowout), and UCLA.

Yeah, I saw one national guy's poll a week before the LSU - Florida game...the top 5 at least. He had USC #3 and no LSU listed. Hmmm, let me get this straight...LSU beat UW...USC lost to UW at the same venue. LSU had played a similar schedule than USC including 3 road games out of 5 and was undefeated. Yet magically none of that mattered because USC was supposedly a better team than LSU. I realize USC won at OSU but LSU had won at Washington, at Georgia. Geez, what planet is that guy from? You can rank LSU #50 if you want to, but that guy can't rank USC ahead of LSU at that point in the season. Obviosly he can now since LSU lost.

Oh, and for those bashing Miami, they played their first four games against ranked teams and went 3-1. That's gotta be worth something. They may not finish in the top 10, but they've done quite well considering they had no benefit of "warmup" games.

You can say they played their first four games against ranked teams, but, really, one of those games was Florida State. Georgia Tech is going to hover around #25 all year and Oklahoma is a two-loss team who had a backup QB who Miami beat at home by one point. Their other game was a blowout loss. I am not saying Miami is horrible and if this thing went to 15 spots, I'd probably have them at 12, but I only have one foot on the bandwagon at this point.

First, Georgia is not a terrible team and was in the top 15 or so when LSU beat them.
They arent very good. 3-3 now? Idc what they were ranked at the time.

Second, LSU dominated the Georgia game in the stats and was leading on the scoreboard almost the entire game.
LSU still needed a miracle.
quote:
Geez, that is ludicrous to even try to say LSU was lucky in that game.
because it wasnt lucky that the refs called that 15 yard penalty on georgia or that charles scott had his best run of the season to win the game.

Virginia Tech's lucky win against Nebraska was at home. LSU had 2 straight road games against MSU and Georgia.
Beating nebraska at home >> beating msu on the road.

Alabama beat Virginia Tech by the same number of points that Florida beat LSU by
LSU playing at home =/= a neutral site game.

And as far as top 20 goes, what week are we talking about re: Miami. Is Florida State a good team that has now a losing record. How about OU that has already lost twice including to BYU in addition to Miami by 1 point with their starting QB out.
Miami beat georgia tech and oklahoma. Im not even including fsu. LSU played florida with tebow coming off a concussion and playing conservatively in the first half. OU is much better than anyone LSU has beaten. Dont act like landry jones sucks.

Once again, Virginia Tech and Miami are overrated and LSU should be near the bottom of the top 10 somewhere. Playing in the ACC is NOT the same as playing in the SEC. Ask Virginia Tech how the above mentioned Alabama game does. Oh, and for the record, LSU beat a Washington team in the same stadium where Washington beat USC!
Alabama is the best team in the country. But MSU and Georgia are no where near their level. Alabama being good doesnt mean MSU and georgia are good. And who cares about washington? A middle of the pack at best Pac 10 team. They almost lost in their house to Arizona.

Virginia Tech #3 and Miami #7 or whatever....explains your post!!
Actually my post explains my rankings. I went through this same thought process before I did my rankings. I didnt just rank teams how I felt and then attempted to justify it after.

Tell me, if LSU beats Ole Miss since they were once ranked #4, does LSU get credit for beating a top 5 team?

I think you and geauxtigers3 are the same guy.

Wow. Seriously?
I review every team's results on a weekly basis when doing my poll, which is why they tend to fluctuate so much from week to week, especially during the early weeks. This doesn't change the fact that Miami played 4 teams in a row that were ranked at the time of the game. I'm not claiming Miami is a top tier team. In fact, I've been quite critical of them this season. Here's a thread I started from a few weeks back as reference:
LINK
And for the record, I am also a huge supporter of not having polls released until Week 8 of the regular season.

Eh, I've been thinking about it and I think that LSU could be in the top 10 over Miami or Iowa, but it's all speculation. It's mostly about how I feel, but I'm not going to throw out all kinds of stats, because that's stupid. I don't feel that Cincy is a legit top 10 team, but I understand why they're there. I suppose I just would have done things differently is all, and I agree with the other polls keeping us in the top 10, because losing to Florida by 10 shouldn't drop you more than six spots.

There is NOTHING embarassing about Georgia. They lost at Okie State by 2 TDs, lost to LSU by 1 TD, and lost at Tenn. They beat Arkansas at Ark and beat Ariz State and beat S. Carolina. To call them terrible is an absolute farce! You also mentioned LSU lucking out due to the penalty...of course this is ridiculous. The refs didn't keep GA from tackling Holliday and LSU had the same situation later on their kickoff and stopped the GA guy 25 yards earliers on his return. Disagree about your Nebraska vs MSU analysis. Your opinion about how good Alabama is BTW. Anyway, once again, Virginia Tech is way overrated as will be proven by the season going on and so is Miami.
