If this is about getting the best on the field, why wan't Hatcher moved to LB last year before Francois?

We weren't as experienced at safety as we are now

my guess - because Loston/Reid weren't ready to play full-time at safety...

this may be a sign that Minter isn't ready to call the defense yet, which is important for Chavis

Couple of things stood out.

1 - No Chancey in the 2-deep for DEs

2 - Not one RB for KR. I figured guys who specialize running with the football like Blue or Ford could excel. Or a RS10 at KR. Just surprised.

3 - Simon backs up MoC and not on same side as TM7.

This Depth Chart seems to be kinda old. There is no true freshman on there other than Anthony Johnson. After hearing everything about guys like Landry and Beckham Jr. and them not being on there makes me think that this is the spring depth chart.

And knowing that Johnson enrolled early.

Guys aren't going to move up the depth chart based solely on 7-on-7 practices without pads that the coaches can't even watch.

Exactly, but this will give you a good framework of what to expect this fall.

We know that chavis will have some packages. Where Mo, Simon, and T-Raw will be on the field at the same time.

I'm excited about our depth on the D-line. We are stacked!

My guess is that "or" means Hatcher will be playing MLB in nickel and dime sets and that they are in those sets frequently enough to call them co starters.

I figured Hatcher would start at Sam. They must not trust Minter at this point. If Minter is not going to start, I would have liked to have seen Barrow-W, Baker-M, Hatcher-S.

Also, I thought Shaw would battle with Faulk for LT

The Freak starting

And I think Reid needs to be on the field. I don't think he's going to start over Taylor though

Seth Fruge at holder is kind of interesting

That guess makes a lot of sense and would make our nickel package pretty mean

They haven't started practice yet. How would they be on the depth chart? Freak is on there because he was here in the spring

This is a subject debated and brought up on here for years----LSU's inability to recruit big time LB's. Granted, there have been exceptional ones, i.e. James, Highsmith, Sheppard. But, while Miami, FSU, etc. were able to attract top LB recruits year and year out it "seemed" LSU was going after the Derrick Odoms, Jason Spadonis, Kyle Praters and Thomas Dunsons of the world.

It just may be that it's finally catching up. Of course this is just my observation. I could be wrong.

I think MLB is a good fit for Hatcher. He's always been a slow safety (which means he'll be a fast LB), and he's more of an in-the-box, run stopper than a guy who can play on the edge and cover like the OLBs have to do.

I hate to be completely negative, but it's usually not a good sign when coaches transition one player to another position.

Yeah, didn't work for Harry Coleman at all.

Or Carnell Stewart.

Or Quinn Johnson.

Can Hatcher realistically replace Shep's 110 tackles?

I think Shep was the best MLB we had since B. James, and I don't know if anyone is going to 'replace' him. I actually think Hatcher could do a decent job there if he has added some muscle mass. We will need our DT to do a real good job to help him out though.
