How do you give up 400+ yards passing to a Big East opponent and expect to win the SEC West? Does it not scare the devil out of you guys that your secondary looked so suspect? No flame intended...I'll hang up and listen
Do you think anyone in the SEC west will throw the ball almost 70 times when they play us? GTFO
We beat your arse last year when you had Ingram, Julio, and McElroy, and our defense is 3 times better this year.

this was posted about earlier.... it was the intentional scheme of our D, to allow more DB chances at int's. it worked,,,, i counted 4 dropped int's, right into the hands of our DB's. we make those catches, take away a couple 20+ yd pass plays, and thier O production is not as much...

quote:Yeah . . . it had nothing to do with guys like Spurrier, Weurffel, Tebow, Meyer, etc.
that's why he kept losing to FL and people wanted him out of TENN
Chavis' defense is awesome. His defense has always been very tough to beat without much better talent. Spurrier was able to do that a few times because he is (or at least was) one of the greatest offensive coaches ever. Meyer is close to the same (if not better) AND pretty much always had better talent. Now Chavis has the great talent, and his defense is pretty hard to beat (as evidenced by the 26 point win).

No way. Meyer is a good coach, but not anywhere near some of the greats. How come his team was so awful last season?

Bingo. Give him better talent, maybe even equal talent, and he can win. But he didn't have superior talent in 2007 and he didn't have superior talent in 2010 so his super huge ego couldn't handle it and he quit.

We pinned them deep so they had very long fields. They piled up the yards on their side of the field. LSU tightened up in the red zone and forced turnovers by design. Very limited blitzes. We knew they wouldn't run so we loaded the backfield. Our open field tackling was poor this game and that is why they scored three times. Aside from that, plan worked, Brah!
We won't play SEC West teams the same way. Did you see the Mississippi State game?

A three step drop is the easiest type of pass to stop because if the primary receiver is jammed or knocked off his route then the QB usually has no where else to go
But whatever. I'm sure Saban has already chalked up about 60 points for y'all offense on us since we clearly can't stop anyone. I imagine he'll just give the offense the week off instead of wasting time preparing against our Jr. High defense that can't stop the pass.
Btw, corners only cover 2 receivers on the line; slots, TEs, RBs on the flare, etc., are almost always covered by Safeties, Nicklebacks or LBs dropping into coverage, none of which are usually in a position to immediately jam a receiver. That's why you coach them to wrap up and tackle well to make sure the quick short pass only gives up quick short yardage. That's why Smith only averaged 7.1 yards per attempt despite having one of the fastest playmakers in the country catching passes for him.
If I were y'all, I'd be more worried about the fact that even though we've played Oregon and MSU, and y'all haven't played a running game with a pulse, our run defense is just .15 yards/carry behind y'all's, and the fact that we're +2.00 per game on the turnover margin and y'all are on the minus side. How are y'all -6 in turnovers against Kent State and North Texas? How does that not scare the hell out of y'all?

quote:Frankly, I think he never really un-retired. I have always had a lot of respect for him as a coach, and still do, but that lack of intensity he brought to his last season there was pretty shameful. I thought he owed Florida more than that, or he should have never come back. It was even worse that Saban pulled on us at the end of 2004.
How come his team was so awful last season?
quote:I was talking offensively only. But the guy does have 2 National Titles, so he can't be placed too far from greats like Spurrier.

I really don't like the guy, but I do have to respect the 2 National titles. I think Tebow/Percy Harvin carried him to the 2nd of those, but I have to give Meyer credit for recruiting them.
I would still rank Spurrier ahead of him as a coach simply because Spurrier's Fun N' Gun was near unstoppable in the 90s, and he did it with guys that never made an impact on the NFL level (Chris Doering was timed with a 4.9 40 yd time). Meyer did very well with a team loaded with NFL talent, and many of those players have shown to be good pros. So I'd have to give Meyer the recruiting edge over Spurrier, but not the offensive game planning.

I'd bet $1,000 dollars that if AJ McCarron throws it more than 30 times or even 63 LSU wins by 2 scores.

The yards that LSU gave up Sat. must wrap around a Bama fan like a warm, comfy blanket on a cold December evening. LSU will undoubtedly hear about how suspect the defense is when faced with an O-line experienced enough to handle a pass rush.
But if anybody watched the game in Morgantown without their Crimson-colored glasses on, you'd see that LSU played conservative D for the entire second half after jumping out to a quick lead. It's that simple. The second-half was in no-way indicative of the LSU defense's true capabilities.
On the other hand, viewing the game without purple & gold glasses reveals some weakness in the LSU defense. Mingo and Monty are not Lawrence Taylor & Derrick Thomas. LSU cannot count on its four-man rush to consistently pressure the QB. Timely blitzing is necessary, and occasionally the DB's (even and especially All-World Mo Claiborne) miss tackles. All of this adds up to a simple truth: LSU has a very good, talented, deep defense that is not perfect but is good enough to win any game on their schedule. Only an LSU fan or a 'Bama fan would expect more.

Well we are 3 for 3 in big games. Ill take my chances wit this d. If he throws it 30 times they are sitting rt around 200 yds.

You do realize they were told to stay in their passing lanes, right? In an attempt to knock down passes at the los
This dramatically limited anything other than straight forward pass rush without stunts, twists, spin moves etc.

How is he with 3 step drops? I havent seen him run a WVU-like O but Ive only seen Bama for about 3 or 4 series of O this yr.
Did Arky run a lot of 3 step drops against Bama?

I think it was pretty obvious Chavis' play was to bend but not break. Keep the ball in front and not give up any yard
