So I guess the fact LSU's last game was played on that field and the fact we're playing on the same field doesn't hold weight in the same argument? You don't think LSU defense will look faster than Oregon expects?

Of course, Auburn's 3 senior DT were a little more experienced that yours. I talked with a colleague in Duluth, GA (LSU graduate) that expressed concern about LSU's interior replicating Auburn without Nevis and new DTs. That was interesting.

Yeah, but it won't be the same Duck O-line either. You guys act like replacing three starters on your O-line will be a cakewalk. I know LSU is replacing two DTs, as well, but it takes longer for an O-line to come together than it does a D-line.

Remember that Holmes, York and Kaiser all struggled to stay over 280 for the NCG. This year's interior will be bigger and stronger. Grasu, our new center, is one of our strongest, York is bigger and the other guard spot will have Clanton at 300. We'll also have Benyard in the interior rotating in at 325. This interior will be hard to bull rush. Of course, you are right that cohesion will be a question.
To some extent, there will be addition by subraction. Likewise, we have 2 full timers and a part time starter coming back (Weems at 8 starts including USC, Tennesse and Auburn).

Regarding the field conditions in the national championship, Auburn had more size and Oregon had more speed, a very sloppy field is an advantage for size to trump speed.
I do expect LSU's defense to play disciplined and make life very difficult for Oregon. The Ducks like to play on the perimeter, isolating WRs and RBs one-on-one with a lot of screens and off-tackle runs hoping that quickness can beat the unblocked defender. LSU's lateral speed in the front 7 will make this difficult to accomplish.
The team's that have had success in slowing Oregon's offense since Chip Kelly implemented his system (Ohio State, Cal, Auburn) have done so by having their defensive tackles overpower the center of the line getting penetration at the point of the mesh on zone reads disrupting the timing.
Yes Oregon is technically replacing three starters along the offensive line, but keep in mind that Oregon implements a lot of rotation in their lineups, so the three new starters have PLENTY of game experience, as do their backups. It is not a bunch of recruits fresh off the bus, the Ducks rotate players on offense and defense constantly, so don't expect wide eyes and timid hearts.
While everyone is talking about Oregon's offensive speed vs. LSU's defensive speed, after observing both teams closely I do believe that the matchup to watch all game is Oregon's interior line vs. LSU's DTs. Oregon is replacing their center, if LSU's DTs start to manhandle the center and guards inside then it strongly favors a LSU victory. If they can hold to the point of permitting the mesh point to be hassle-free on the IZR and OZR though, that will give Oregon's playmakers a chance to get isolated one-on-one and if that happens it could be a long day for the Tigers.
Everything in this game will come down to LSU's tackles and Oregon's interior line...pay very close attention to it all game.

Also OU is Oklahoma or the Ohio Bobcats, not Oregon. Ducks are UO.
Yeah it's minor, but it's also like nails on a chalkboard. It would be like somebody out west referring to the Tigers as La Tech, or confusing the two Tiger teams in the SEC thinking you guys were Auburn or vice versa.
Or you have been vexed at some point by Oklahoma or Ohio...what did the Bobcats ever do to LSU???

Oregon. They will have LSU's tongues on the ground come the 4th quarter.

Since we have had all off season to prepare/condition for the Tempo "that makes Oregon such a threat"; I think our Defense wins the speed battle. I would be more worried if this game was in the middle of the schedule.. I use the Tenn. game as a good reference. The first half they shut ya'll down "LMJ 25yds.". Now the second half they looked like an high school team. Ya'll wore them completely down and that isn't a knock on your tempo style offensive scheme. Once they were wore down; ya'll did what you wanted to and your speed "yes I admit you have fast players that aren't in the SEC" took over.
I think ya'll will be impressed with our ability to contain the perimeter, because of the speed of our ends and LB's.. Noel Devine sure was.

Do people keep forgetting that it was 13-13 in the first half against Tennessee? That isn't exactly shutdown. It's halfway to 26, close your your average points per game.
Posted on 8/23/11 at 7:26 pm to bisonduck
There was also an almost 90 minute lightning delay in the first half that allowed time for Tennessee to recover, which helped to keep it close in the first half.

I was referring to them shutting down your rush attack. That is why LMJ has had so many yds. and is to be considered to be Heisman candidate. Slow the tempo down he is just a small quick back. To me your offensive production mainly comes from the run, and that is why you didn't beat Auburn. Kelly should have thrown more against their weak secondary. It started working toward the end of the game.

quote:Sounds like you agree with me. It wasn't foot speed, but Tempo. See LMJ's quote! "We didn't make any adjustments in the second half," James said. "It comes down to tempo. Once the tempo gets going, it's hard to stop. Once those guys got tired we kept rolling."

I'm not saying your a crappy team because of the gimmick Tempo scheme! If it works then use it. I am saying we have had time to condition for it, and we will neutralize that threat.

LSU D is fast as frick AND can lay some frickin wood. USC lite is fast but will be weary once they put it on em.
"
this little mother here." nah dude, that's t-rex about to frick your shite up.
"
@ this freshman in the trenches" the freak.... That's all I'm saying
"
did they just line a linebacker up at DE?" it's okay, he won't be there long, it's gonna take the jaws of life to get his facemask out your earhole."
It really won't be as close as people are going to believe. Ducks are getting hurt and will blame LSU for the demise of their season.
