quote:NCAA has been struggling with this for about 6 years now. One option is the BCS break-away & legalize "pay for play" route and the other is the bring the hammer down "SMU/Death Penalty" approach. Right now it just appears that the amount of money involved is such an astronomical figure due to TV revenue, it's in the best interest of the college presidents & the NCAA to let it play out on it's own.
could this be the tip of an iceberg?

LSU paid for the time it saved in finding these players on their own. Time is money.

I don't know why people in this thread keep skipping over this. And the whole "they can get the videos from the players coach" angle doesn't hold water either.

"Purple Shield" sounds like a condom!
I am ready for the game now...by the time the NCAA pulls their head out the season will be over!!! So we will still play the games....and win!

That is the first time I have ever seen the Rant described as "logical".

If LSU catches any shite over this, yet Auburn is able to walk after clearly buying players, I will bomb the NCAA.

It is my understanding that the videos were of numerous players in California and Kansas and the number of videos amounted to about $175.00 per player. A lot cheaper that flying a coach to one game.

We now have independent confirmation of LSU's materials:

LINK ]Willie Lyles update: LSU received 32 player-video DVDs for $6,000
quote:
LSU received 32 DVDs of game and player highlight film for the $6,000 it paid Houston-based talent scout Willie Lyles for his "2010 JUCO perState Package," again raising the question of what Oregon received for its $25,000 payment to Lyles.
LSU released copies of the DVDs to The Oregonian on Thursday in response to a request under open-records law. As promised in Lyles' invoice, the videos included film of California and Kansas junior college players from the 2010-11 recruiting year.
LSU's transaction contrasts with Oregon's exchange with Lyles, in which the Ducks paid him $25,000 in 2010 for game and highlight film from 22 states but could not locate any cache of video from Lyles when asked for it by media outlets. The sole exception, included in a release of documents from UO last month, was a YouTube link, now dead, that Lyles emailed to an Oregon employee in January.

The statement doesn't give the dates LSU received the information from Lyles, only when LSU paid. Is it possible that the information was received so close to the national signing day that it would have been useless to get the updated information?

To put that date in perspective, Zach Mettenberger committed to LSU on 12/06/2010. National Signing Day was February 2, 2011.

Thousands doesn't seem out of whack. Kansas and Cali. Im sure les and other southern coaches dont know highschool coaches or juco coaches in those states. Nor have the timre and energy to be roaming cali for prospects.

We were looking for a qb. Seems like we were going juco no matter what and was the back up plan to z lee.
Now not sure what may come out ab lylse and these players that eventually didnt choose LSU.
