Trent Johnson was considered far from a risky hire at the time.

I follow sports pretty closely, although I have been apathetic towards college basketball since LSU has been so down. I had honestly never heard of Trent Johnson, so I doubt most high school recruits had ever heard of him.

Trent was a great hire. People were pumped.

We were 25-4, 13-1 at one point in 2009. We were back bitches.

People being pumped had nothing to do with Trent.

I agree with you that Trent was a good hire on paper, not great, but after he was hired I talked myself into thinking Alleva did good.

I think it was more people were excited we pulled him away from Stanford.

Which if you really thought about it wasn't that hard to do.

I like to throw that out when people say they want Bruce or Tim Floyd

kind of funny that all good coaches have some kind of knock on them.

I wouldn't be against Bruce if he were allowed to recruit in the next 3 years

I thought it was a stupid hire and could not believe we were actually hiring the guy.

I like Trent a lot as a man and hope he can get a decent job if we cut ties. Liking him is pretty much the reason I really wish he could figure it out here.

I didn't give a shite about Brady.

I actually liked Brady as a guy better than Trent. He used to pay for meals at his radio show.

He built up two programs. There wasn't much to not like.

He built up Nevada but his success at Stanford was always overstated.

this

we have a coach right now who figuratively can't recruit, and we wanna hire one who LITERALLY cannot recruit.

brady just lost that fire after the final four run.

only thing i really don't like about floyd is that he's getting kinda old. thought he came off as a tool in that incident with the cop as well, although i've seen coaches blow even worse loads than that.

How did he get to 25-9 and 28-8 at Nevada and Stanford then?

i get bashed for Floyd, yet all the experts want to hire one of the shadiest people on the planet. i agree Pearl would energize the fan base with his personality, but he is an admitter cheater, plus he would never consider LSU as a destination job.

He took over at stanford when they were a big time program, then they were bad for a few years, then had one good year and came here. He only had one good year at nevada.

shaka is probably the closest thing to a 'young dale brown' but i don't think he's a realistic candidate as he'll wait for a better situation.
