2026 HS class has 1 Louisiana kid. Most other schools their HS class is much more regionally based. Texas, AtM, Arky etc for the most part are within a neighboring state for HS guys.
Now go to the recruiting page and look at the Baseball recruiting thread. If you scroll down and look at the 2027 class its loaded with Louisiana kids. That class has more LA talent than the 2026 class does, and you cant get them all.

quote:Yeah, because you're basically looking for someone who has a ton of unrealized potential that pro scouts either don't see or don't trust.
Finding them is the hard part though.
Even a guy like William Patrick, who was a borderline top 100 HS prospect, was extremely raw and not ready to be an every day player in the SEC. Quite frankly, he wasn't even close.
So you're looking for either a physically maxed out guy like John Pearson, or a physically ready but not quite there yet on the ability side like Patrick, and you need them to grow into the player they could be. That's how you get a Beloso or a Dugas. Even then, those guys are extremely rare.
I think the best way to build a program is to sign 1 or 2 top 10-20 guys, hoping that you get one every couple years. Then focus about 90% of your effort on the 30-100 guys, of which you want to get about 5 of, then fill in with a couple of projects and ~10 portal guys, multiple of which have to be ready to compete in the SEC at a very very high level.
Building a roster in baseball is just extremely challenging.
