Pac 10 remains competitive
If USC winning or sharing the conference title every year this decade (2001-2008) constitutes competitive than who am I to argue the point.
But hey, maybe you can get some payback on those Mountain West killers this year.

Doesn't mean much as some OOC games can just be huge mismatches.
LSU-Washington
Oregon-Mississippi State
agreed, but I think some find it to be a surprising stat, especially with this idea that the Pac-10 can't compete

Arizona State and Oregon State were bowl teams from the years we played them in 2005 and 2006. .
ASU, a perennially overrated team, was 7-5 the season you beat them only by 4 pts.
You played OSU (also 7-5) in 2004 and beat them by 1 pt at home.
Those games appear pretty competitive to me...

I thought beating them at all was pretty damn impressive considering what the LSU team had endured prior to that game.

Hmmmm. Let's see.
Alabama 27 LSU 21
Utah (Mt. West) 31 Alabama 17
Yeah, those Mt. West teams really suck.

I don't understand the point of putting the Bama/LSU game in there.
If you want to use A>B>C logic, Utah was the best team in the country last year.

Considering they beat the Pac 10 6 out of 7 games I wouldn't be so quick to play down the MWC.
That is far more indicative of one conference dominating another conference than one bowl game. But you knew that.

Pac 10 is more competitive than you think. You just need to take a more objective look at it and get outside of your SEC and media mindset.
In a preamble to an article on the SEC West:
quote:
On a personal note – Mr. Harbach and I would like to publish an open (albeit brief) letter to Mr. Pete Carroll, and the rest of the PAC 10 brass, in an effort to stop the madness. Hey Pete, any football conference that one team can win for seven – going on eight – straight years, is not a competitive conference. Period. While we're on it, the fact you have had that advantage and only have one National Championship to show for it also speaks volumes. Alright then; let’s all move on.
How fitting. An article on the SEC West division and the Pussy Ass Conference gets a mention.

A win is a win, and we've won 9 in a row against the P10. 12-3 all-time

The poster I was responding to was attempting to put down the entire Pac-10 Conference because of the aforementioned losses to MWC teams. My response was intended to point out that teams such as Utah (and TCU and BYU) are more than competitive and capable of playing (and beating) teams(s) from the so-called "premiere conference in the land." BTW, the MWC had two teams finish in the "top-10" final 2008 rankings (Utah and TCU) -same as the SEC - and three in the "top-25," only one fewer than the SEC.

I think he was saying the Mountain West is currently a better football conference than the Pac 10 and that would be hard to argue against considering how they manhandled you guys in 08.

In your opinion, is there currently one superior to the SEC?

Because they feasted on the Pac 10.

I love how one can complain that the Pac 10 is not competitive but then say "a win is a win" in response to the fact LSU (the #2 SEC team at the time) barely got by two mid-level 7-5 Pac 10 teams by 1 and 4 pts respectively.
Scheduling a horribly down UW team and the Arizonas of the Pac 10 is not exactly taking on the Pac 10.
Complaining that no one can take over SC in the Pac 10 is also hilarious. SC has been a perennial NC caliber team all of those years. If they were in ANY other conference, they'd probably win it too. Interesting though, except for the one Texas game, it seems only Pac 10 teams can beat SC... though, remember, it's not competitive.

Do you not understand what happened in the state of Louisiana prior to that game? Its amazing that team went to Arizona and had the energy to compete much less win that game.

Kind of ironic this comment is coming from a ND fan, don't you think? You all get the same opportunity every year as if you were a Pac-10 team - half the games on your home field - and yet have lost SEVEN in a row to USC, six of them being blowouts. I would think you'd show a little more repect for the Pac-10 teams that have beaten the Trojans considering the "Fighting Irish's" pathetic record against them.

The ND fanhood proclamation to solely to get my brother's dander up. I'm LSU through and through. Although you may infer by my name I do appreciate the Irish.
Besides, if you guys have to resort to flaming Notre Dame then you lost this battle.

Katrina + our home game at Sundevil Stadium = tough win over asu in 05...remarkable they even had enough energy to compete
Marcus Randall and a freshman Jamarcus Russell = struggles against osu in 04...not one of our best games i'll give you that one

Not flaming the Irish, merely pointing out the inconsistencies in your arguments. BTW: Seeing how these message boards are pretty much anonymous, all we have to go by is a poster's "signature." The fact that you chose to adopt ND as yours "to get my brother's dander up" says a lot about you.

Really? What does it say? Seriously, I'm curious to know.

But the reality is you haven't. Even if I were a Notre Dame fan you would have done nothing to to knock down anything I said concerning the Pac 10. Unless deflection was your goal, in which case you succeeded.
