Chico is a former LSU Cheerleader and current LSU Cheerleading Coach. He is also a 10 year veteran member of the Universal Cheerleaders Association staff and a Creative for Apple in Baton Rouge, LA. Chico is 29 years old and is not married and has no children.
On the evening of Saturday, August 27, 2011 Chico was involved in a boating accident on the Diversion Canal. He was airlifted from the scene to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. It was determined that Chico had a C4-C5 vertebral dislocation and his spinal cord was injured as a result. Unfortunately, he is paralyzed and has no movement or feeling from the chest down, in his arms and hands, or legs. He is using a ventilator to help him breathe, however, we are hoping he will be able to breathe on his own soon.
Currently, Chico is at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA undergoing rehabilitation. It is one of the top rehabilitation hospitals in the nation, specializing in medical treatment, research, and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord injury. Their mission is to help people rebuild their lives with hope, independence and dignity, advocating for their full inclusion in all aspects of community life. With the right combination of quality medical care, intensive therapy and personal will, we know recovery is possible.
Although Chico has a very long road ahead of him, we are so very hopeful! We know with your help and support, and God’s love, anything is possible. We are hoping and praying for a miracle…and we hope you will do the same!!! Keep Cheering for Chico!!!
