2019 247 composite QB and national player rankings and college career stats
#1 #11 - Rattler (Oklahoma to USCe)
93 total TDs and 32 INT in 48 games
44 and 20 in 25 games at USCe
#2 #33 - Nix (Auburn to Oregon)
147 total TDs and 26 INT in 60 games
90 and 10 in 26 games at Oregon
#3 #35 - Daniels (Arizona St. to LSU)
124 total TDs and 20 INT in 55 games
79 and 7 in 26 games at LSU
#4 #64 - Ryan Hilinski (USCe to Northwestern)
25 total TDs and 16 INT in 33 games
13 and 11 in 20 games at Northwestern
#5 #65 - Graham Mertz (Wisconsin to Florida)
70 total TDs and 29 INT in 45 games
24 and 3 in 11 games at Florida
#6 #93 - Sam Howell (North Carolina)
111 total TDs and 23 INT in 37 games
#7 #174 - Dylan Morris (Washington backup)
25 total TDs and 17 INT in 26 games
#8 #180 - Taulia Tagovailoa (Alabama to Maryland)
90 total TDs and 37 INT in 46 games
89 and 37 in 41 games at Maryland
#9 #211 - Max Duggan (TCU)
101 total TDs and 28 INT in 47 games
#10 #217 - Taisun Phommachanh (Clemson to GA Tech to U Mass)
12 total TDs and 10 INT in 24 games
8 and 6 in 9 games at U Mass
Michael Penix was the #40 ranked QB in the 2018 class.
Jordan Travis was the #67 ranked QB in the 2018 class.
There were a few lower ranked guys in 2019 like Zach Calzada (#35) and Dillon Gabriel (#48) that have been decent.
Howell and Duggan never transferred.
Taulia productive but high INT rate.
Mertz was okay but look at W/L record.
Hilinski, Morris, and Phommachanh haven't produced yet but have 1 or 2 seasons left to play.
Nix would never have come to LSU anyway.
Rattler is good but high INTs and just mediocre running.
Jayden Daniels and LSU coaches made the right choice.

Crazy how many people transfer

One thing that can not be understated is the number of starts Daniels and Nix had. They had the natural ability to stay on the field until their work ethic and experience took them from good to elite.
Also in Nix's case, moving into an system offense that makes QB's look better than they would in any other offense. He is a damn good QB, but there is no way in hell he is the best QB in the country.

70% success rate out of the 2019 class top 10. I think the transfer rules have helped that number. When players had to sit out a year when transferring, they sometimes stuck it out at their team even if they had to wait another year to play since it was still two or three years wait before playing.

You can thank covid and the transfer portal for this. The success rate for top 10 QBs was really bad on a yearly basis before the last couple of years.
Just look at the top 10 for the 2020 season (the season that screwed up development for many). Only 3 of the top ten has performed up to their standard for at least a year, while 3 total have performed and started for multiple years (one of these three is not in the other list).
Stroud and Young are the standouts with Haynes King having a great year this year finally. DJ U, while he didn't have a great year, he had a really good year. Hudson Card was great in relief at Texas for 2 years before being the middling starter at Purdue. The good thing is that all these guys, plus the others have 6 years to play 5 because they are the last of the covid kids.
DJ will probably follow his coach to Michigan St unless a bigger program that fits his skill set and has talent on the offense, gets him over.
Card, Bailey, and Garbers still have a legit chance to do something
