If Tahj could only pack on 10-15 pounds he might be our best LB. I'm more optimistic about our LB's than most of you. Muncie and Barrow will be a good battle for the starting Will position.

I think they could be very good. Chavis is the best LB coach in the business.

The Chief also demands alot from his LB's. It is probably a bit more important to be a perfect LB from the neck up, than the neck down.

Seems like in times past there was always talk about converting running backs to linebackers.

Does that ever happen in high level DI ball? Seems like we have an abundance of running backs. But I don't know if something like that is at all feasible. So I figure maybe some of the more knowledgeable on here might have a take on it.

If it's not just totally out of left field, what rb's do you think might make good linebackers?

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Mingo playing a hybrid DE/OLB position. I think the coaching staff will enjoy getting Rasco to the field without having to take Mingo or Montgomery out.

In the BCS game, we saw glimpses of Mingo dropping into coverage. Expect a little more of this against teams who roll the pocket.

Im with you on this. One things for sure, Chavis is the best at moving people into positions the are made for. I would love to see Mingo get there with his speed.

We are thin there, this season.

Safety isn't as thin as you think.

Reid, Loston, Vinson, Martin, and Gibson all played last year and looked good.

Tahj played great last year and will only get bigger and better with experience. I like Minter and Tahj with Bakers old WLB position to be a battle between:
Muncie
Barrow
Phillips - if he commits

Keep D.J.Welter in mind. He played for Coach Cook and is capable of being a coach on the field.

We definitely will get way more athletic with this class and I don't think seniority will play as big a factor as most of us think. It may be just about putting your best players on the field this year.

I agree that If tahj put on 20 pounds, which he will, and retains his speed... he could be one of the best outside linebackers in our recent history. he can cover in space and step up and make the tackle. Minter is a classic 4-3 Mike and if he gains some lateral quickness he could make a push for all conference. I really do imagine that fiest or another freshmen will receive significant playing time if he is in good enough physical and mental shape. Overall we will still be young, but could be the best corps in a long while. CHAVIS DOING WORK

I expect the linebackers will be better because they are true linebackers. Francois and Hatcher had to learn the position and it just never seemed to worked well. Baker, because he was already a linebacker, developed more rapidly at the position.

Chavis wants fast linebackers and he has been recruiting them the last two seasons while bringing in safeties to fill the hole temporarily. Now they should be ready to produce on the field.
