Confidence? Is that what some people really think is the problem of this defense? Our defense was not too great last year and they were VERY confident. How bout we are just not very well coached since Muschamp left. Pelini was o.k. but nothing special. He was only GREAT compared to what we have now.

All in ll, we have no defensive identity which hs been the heart and soul of this team. Our offense is inconsistent and relies to heavily on our QB making plays all too often. Everyone talks about if JJ is ready or not, Lee is not ready either. JJ does not know the play book that well and JL needs safe passes called and he should NEVER be allowed to throw across the middle unless it is a decoy play and he should be told to overthrow the ball where NOBODY can catch it.

agree it will be the beginning of the end, but not even close to dinardo..miles has 3 11 win seasons, 2 trips to seccg, 1 sec title, 2 bcs wins including 1 mnc

no scheme on def. it's like watching a kid play ps2 ncaa 09, zone defense and blitz on 3rd down. as far as saban if he loses to auburn and florida they will want to kill him in alabama plus we will see what he does with an inexperience qb next year. florida, georgia and most of the big 12 will be in the same boat.

They aren't playing as good as they can. That's one large problem.

They "tackle like girls.

a couple of years ago we ranked dead last in turnovers and I think we went too far in the other direction.

ok, but nothing special??? the facts suggest otherwise...just because you didn't like his defensive philosophy doesn't mean he wasn't effective

2007 Pelini Defense

2006 Pelini Defense

2005 Pelini Defense

So that's why the Defense was been so bad this year.

Last year UF went 9-4.

Why this comparison. I know, they had a Heisman and lost 4 after a NC, but their defense was decimated and ours was not. Yes, we lost Steltz, Highsmith, Dorsey and some other key players, but had alot of lineman back. They have had no pressure all year. When you have green dbs, you gotta have pressure from your lbs and front four, which they have not done.

In 02, we were doing well before Mauck got hurt. If he doesn't get hurt, who knows how we finish up.

I will give Miles the benefit of the doubt. But if the DC doesn't happen, then I fear more of the same next year and then he will need to go.

Yeah this was a similar type season. I believe this was when Rhett Bomar was kicked off the team during the summer and they played I believe Paul Thompson all year.

I'm not worried about our QB play really, its our defense that's

Good post...LSU is having a down year and you are right, sometimes things happen...people need to be thankful we are not having a season like Texas A & M. LSU will be back.

Let me take you forward to 2008, Nick Saban is in his 2ND year at Bama, is undefeated, and going to the SECCG and has a shot at the MNC.

Let me take you back a few years. Coach Miles led Oklahoma State teams knocked Bob Stoops led Oklahoma teams out of two potential NC.

I agree. Give Miles time to get this fixed. But, some of the things that are happening are very alarming.

Oh boy...can throw stats around and make then say what we would like them to say.

this should be a BIG point

not all 7 - 4 records are created equal....

the scary part is that we are in a down spiral not an up one.

Personal opinion, judging our season based on A & M's failure is not close to acceptable.

Measure against a winner, not a loser.

A&M does not have our talent.

So all LSU fans are red necks? In your vastly superior mind all red necks are fools? You are an arse.

You will find no shortage of people that think Stoops is over-rated. He knocked Stoops out of potential NC games but OK. St. appear to be better without him. The guy may indeed end up being a good coach but right now he appears to not see that our D is some shyt!

yeah but you could see some positive trends, mainly the arrival of a true Saban defense. Even though we were banged up on defense by end of season, you could see the defense developing and keeping us in games. Except for Auburn (MR turnovers) and bama (just got our arse beat), we played well enough to come within one play of SEC CG.

Excellent analysis. In addition to your well reasoned reply, Saban was still building in 2002 (yup, and he had already won an SECCG). When he took over in 2000, this team was one of the lesser teams in the SEC talent wise...about equal to MSU (who we lost to the year prior) and UK. In 2001, Saban brought in one of the most talented hauls in probably 10 years. In 2004 Saban hauled in the most talented team in LSU history...and handed it to Les.

In '02 Saban was still trying to transition his D from the shitty read and react you see from todays ultra talented LSU team to the attacking style of D seen in the following years NC team.

quote:

Didn't see any positive trends on this team despite being more talented, especially on offense.

Neither did any other educated, rational fan.

...if Matt Mauck's healthy the whole season, we would have been in the seccg and possibly the sugar bowl 3 yrs in a row. M. Randall sunk our ship in 2002. we went 3-4 with MR and 1 of the wins was a hail mary vs Kentucky.
