Urban Meyer's winning percentage overall is 84.2% (128–24).

Pete Carroll's winning percentage overall is 81.4% (83-19) This is after the 14 vacated wins.

Bob Stoops's winning percentage overall is 80.4% (159-39)

There are coaches in college football and basketball who always get their teams prepared to win. The fact is, the issue that you even brought this up speaks to a problem. That problem is that Les Miles's teams occasionally play down to their opponent.

It's the Dean Smith vs. Mike Krzyzewski approach to basketball. UNC had the best NBA ready talent in college basketball. But they seldom won the Championship despite all their talent because it wasn't harnessed. Duke (historically) has had lesser NBA ready talent, but were able to win Championships because Coach K has his players play every game like it's the Championship.

The issue is that as an LSU fan, it is frustrating to see a team this talented lose to the likes of Ole Miss, or have Furman give us a run for our money, solely because the coach didn't do his job that week.

This team wins on talent most of the time. If they executed to their ability, ESPN would be talking about him the way they do with Saban because we would have a couple more National Championships than we do now.

It's the opportunity cost.

However if we drop the game against Iowa then what's the difference?

It would be a pretty big blow to our team's confidence with a new QB headed into next year. Plus the people calling for Miles' head will increase tenfold. A win gives us 10 wins and our QB of the future a win in his first start in a New Years Day bowl game. Plus the Under Armour game is the next day in... you guessed it... St. Pete. That's pretty big IMO.

People's issue with your post was that you claim to be talking just straight facts for discussion, but you automatically counted our next game as a loss.

Les Miles is the greatest coach in LSU history & we are lucky to have him at LSU.

I just added the loss for record keeping sake. I went back and gave both cases for win/loss. But that is just one game. That's what I meant about not being a big deal in the OVERALL perspective.

From a One Game perspective,
HELL YES we need this win in a bad way.

This would do loads for Jennings and Spring Training. Not to mention Bowl Wins for recruits are a big deal too.

Let me repeat. I’m not a Miles hater. It’s just been a lack luster type of Post-Season(Loss to PennSt./Clemson/Bama on the big stage etc.,) the past couple years so with all the coaching changes I’ve been wondering what if we had someone else?

Didn’t mean to come off as a pessimistic Patty :p

Thanks for picking me up though…. you bunch of rude assholes lol!

Would "LSU's talent" be at the level that it currently is without Les Miles' recruiting?

Well, LSU football has been around for well over 100 years and we've never had this level of success over the span of 8 years. I think that could lead you to your answer.
