I think this will be difficult to let go. I think it would take a meltdown by the team or another "miles moment" for him to be removed. My guess is that he will coach this team through 2012 barring a total meltdown.

bring in a great coach and the buyout will pay for itself. an apathetic fanbase that stays homes for games and doesn't buy merchandise does more damage to a school than a buyout ever could.

Bingo! Start seeing all the empty seats in T.S. and all the bad press the Univ is getting on a national level.. it will cost LSU much more than Miles buyout.

I love my Tigers but I wouldnt want my son to play for Miles.

The money involved is in the tens of millions oa year, including TV revenue, bowl revenue, conference $, tickets, apparel sales etc.
Damage is being done to the "brand" already.
It is VERY costly to keep him on at this rate. You cut loses and buy him out before he damages the institutional credibilty.
The AD needs to step in at this point...

wouldn't be a problem if our so called "academics" understood where the money came from. When they start producing a product, they can have money as well to solve problems.

Hands down, one of the stupidest things I've ever read on this board. "Produce a product"? How about every doctor that's ever treated you and every teacher that has ever taught you? How about every engineer in the oil industry? You don't think these folks trained themselves do you. Incredible!

What Les Miles and football players do on the field every Saturday is entertainment. Got it? Entertainment.

you buy out his contract now and his replacement has to be an absolute home run, slam dunk, can't miss hire and for that kind of guy, you'd have to pay big bucks to get. then what if he fails too. pretty sure THAT would do way worse damage to this university.

oh right, only miles could "fail" at LSU

i disagree.

how were the crowds in the final days of dinardo?

tennessee had 30k empty seats a couple of times in fulmer's final season, and they are just as football crazy as us.

people love the tigers, but they are not going to come to the games if the product is not worth the money. hell we have had trouble filling up the stadium the last few years anyway, i would hate to see what it looks like when the fanbase is completely disillusioned.

exactly, these worthless hippie professors we have for life-draining degrees like Women and Gender Studies, have no idea what they are talking about when they criticize the athletic department. The athletic department is probably the only reason they are around in the first place.

Unreal. With sentiments like this, it's no wonder why this state brings up the rear in anything that matters, particularly education. We should simply put all our resources in the football program. After all, who needs teachers, doctors, engineers, etc.? (Don't forget where they get their training and education.)

"Worthless hippie professors?" Jesus dude, how old are you? Are you really serious?

Jim, I'm glad that you responded to the kids that post ignorant crap. Athletics do not pay the professors salaries. LSU IS NOT funded by the athletic department.

Skip had the stare down with Saban and let him walk. He did nothing to keep him from Miami.

This situation was/is nothing about anything but Skip's ego and not wanting a bigger legend on campus.

Buyouts are driven by how bad a person or group wants someone gone. Has nothing to do with the economy.

I am not bitching about real professions with real professors. I am referring to the the entities within the university who want a paycheck for contributing nothing to society. The same ones who criticize the athletic department for spending and making money.

Teachers-teach kids
Doctors- save lives

womens and gender studiers - bitch about the athletic department making money.

It's a shame Skip's going to have this on his record considering his accomplishments at LSU.

And how are you qualified to determine which of the social sciences is worthless? Stop with the ridiculous stereotyping. You sound like an idiot with a 3rd grade education.

It's how do you justify spending that much on a football buyout with all of the cuts to the rest of the university. It's political.

b/c TAF has nothing to do with LSU academics.
