Abc/espn production staff is to blame, not the tempo. Herbstreit had to beg on the air during dead time for them to pull up the mingo tackle on james, and even then it took a couple of minutes.

@InLesWeTrust - Some time in their football playing past these 'poor shulbs' had to be taught the technique of leg whipping. Kelley knows this is going on. It's still dirty football.

I noticed that too. It took forever! Pathetic IMO. When you have a heads up play like that, you have the replay ready to go. Herby sounded a little annoyed too.

i think oregon knew it had a tiger by the tail and they decided that they were gonna see what the ref's were going to allow. they learned the ref's were not going to allow that shite.

leg whips have been illegal for a long, long time.
I remember in a SF Niners vs Cincinnati Bengals SUPER BOWL game decided at the very end, the best defender for Cincinnati leg whipped a 49er, was called for the penalty and he got a broken leg for his trouble and he missed the rest of the game.
He took himself out of the game. Unconsciousness is its own reward.
I think they dont show the nasty stuff on college games, so as not to encourage insane adolescents to duplicate the behavior.

Speaking from my experience as an O-lineman (many years ago in HS mind you). You do anything you can get away with. Refs can call holding just about every play if they want to. I had a friend that kept his finger nails long just so he could dig them into the D-lineman's ribs. It gets nasty in the trenches. I probably would have shived some people if I could have gotten away with it
And coaches don't teach it, they just kind of turn a blind eye. But they will chew your arse out if you miss your assignment and your QB gets his clock cleaned. So it's a matter of "Do what you gotta do to protect the QB, just don't get caught"
The refs just weren't having any of it Saturday night.
