While true, the car was following too closely behind the gold truck, so she definitely wasn’t almost 50 yards behind the truck as the 73 yards you are trying to claim were between Lacy and the truck.
I didn’t claim it. His attorney did.
quote:
Lacy was 92 yards from the crash site when he was fully returned to his lane. The crash occurred 1-2 seconds later, so the truck and the car were further away than 92 yards away from Lacy at the time he returned to his lane. The gold truck was probably 110-115 yards away if the car was 120.
This is not accurate, at all, and nowhere in the article does is reference 92 yards. It says Lacy was 72 yards away when the crash occurred.
quote:
The evidence submitted in the crash report does not support that Kyren Lacy should have known that his actions were the cause of the crash that happened approximately 72 yards in front of him.
Unless Lacy was still going 88 MPH, he didn’t travel 40+ yards in 1 second.
quote:
That is more than 3x the distance required in making a legal pass. Yes, it was a no passing zone, but that didn’t really play into the crash itself. It wasn’t a lack of visibility or a car pulling into the road from a parking lot/driveway. The law believes that being over 100 yards away should have been well more than enough space not to impede oncoming traffic and certainly enough space to avoid a collision.
I
Don’t
fricking
Care
It was a no passing zone for a reason, and that reason was driving like a fricking a-hole would cause wrecks in that area.
The driver of the gold truck didn’t choose to pull completely out of the road for no reason. He did it because he was a second, I’ll be generous and give it an extra .5, so 1.5 seconds away from a head on collision with Lacy.
Count to two. 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi. Now realize the driver of the truck had LESS than that before he was going to be mince meat.
Stop talking to me about how many feet and yards it was and “technically it would be legal if it wasn’t completely illegal”. Acknowledge that Lacy put every person that was on that stretch of road that day in danger because he wanted to drive like a jackass.

the DA still chose to send it to a Grand Jury instead of formally charging Lacy with a felony.
It was explained elsewhere that it is a policy i. Lafourche Parish that when a death occurs, the case is sent to the Grand Jury.
