You said, it didnt matter which poll. That was the final BCS poll. what would a plus 1 accomplish, that the final poll didnt already accomplish?

i said it doent matter which poll in response to your question, which was who determines the 4 playoff teams.

ive already explained what a plus 1 accomplishes that is not accomplished by the current system in this thread. multiple times.

are you really this stupid?

I fail to see what playing another game is going to accomplish. For instance, this year we would have to play VaTech again before we got to the championship game. I don't see the point in that.

If it bothers you that much, quit watching, problem solved.

ok, i'll baby this down for you as much as possible.

lets say you want to randomly pick a red ball out of a bucket full of 10 balls.

on your first pull, there are 8 black balls and 2 red balls in the bucket.

on your second pull, there are 6 black balls and 4 red balls in the bucket.

in which attempt are you more likely to grab a red ball, the first pull or the second pull?

first of all its not going to happen every year that 2 teams that played each other during the year are going to meet up in the playoff.

who the other team is bears no significance at all in this discussion. tennessee beat lsu in the 2001 regular season, lsu beat them in the seccg that same season.

is this really the best you can come up with at this point?

just because i realize the system for determining the best team in college football could be so much better than it currently is does not mean im going to stop watching college football.

The BCS was implemented beginning with the 1998 season to determine the national champion for college football while maintaining and enhancing the bowl system that's nearly 100 years old.

Not the best team, only the national champion.

I too believe this. The system is fine so long as everyone respects the system. The problem comes up when teams cry foul after the system does what it does. USC 2003, UGA 2007. Auburn had a legitimate beef in 2004.

Had LSU missed the NCG in 2003 or 2007 I would have been disappointed but not feel screwed. We had control of our destiny. UGA, USC did as well.

That would be the only time I could see the value in adding a game. If you had 3 or more undefeated conference champions.

which brings up another problem. why shouldnt the best team and the national champion be the same team?

and call it whatever you want. the fact remains there are better ways to determine the national champion than the current system.

why do college basketball, college baseball, 1aa and div2 football, the nfl, the nba, mlb, and just about EVERY OTHER SPORT determine their champion with some sort of playoff, but college football does not?

there are numerous other examples other than the ones you listed.

how about when miami beat fsu during the regular season in 2000 and had the same record as fsu, but fsu went to bcsncg?

or what about when colorado beat nebraska during the season and won the big12 championship, but nebraska went to the bcsncg?

the fact is that majority of the years the bcs has been in existence have ended in controversy. other than texas-usc in 2006, when the bcs wasnt even needed because they were the only 2 undefeated teams, and one other time in the 90's i believe.

this is just flat out ignorant.

lsu finished its last game before the bowls, it was behind wv and missouri in the bcs. the only reason lsu made it into the bcsncg is because both of those teams lost, AFTER lsu had already beaten tennessee.

lsu went into that week #7 in the bcs and came out #2. 2 teams ahead of them lost. VT, a team ahead of them, won. the other 3 teams were off. yet lsu jumped 6 of those 7 teams that week at the whim of voters and computer formulas and 2 teams ahead of them losing. that is NOT controlling your own destiny.

why not if you had 3 or more conference champs all with 1 loss? or 2 losses? or 3 losses?

Because by losing their undefeated status they forfeit the priviledge of playing for a +1 scenario.

It's either going to be the BCS current way of doing things, or a 32 or 16 team playoff.

Basketball, Baseball are different animals. Football is a production. With the rising cost of fuel, I would not be surprised if that was not a major concern brought up against going to a playoff format.

thats just dumb. why dont they also forfeit the privilege of being able to play in the bcsncg game too then?

why? why cant the playoff be 4 teams? or 6 teams? or 8 teams?

then why does high school football, 1aa football, div2 football, and the nfl ALL end their seasons and determine their champions with playoffs?

give me a fricking break. you have now gone beyond reaching for an argument here to just throwing shite against the wall and hoping it sticks.

teams fly all over the country for games already as it is. coaches fly all over the country to go visit recruits. these schools make more than enough money in one home game to fly their team to wherever they need to play for however many times for an entire season.

I just dont see what the appeal of a plus 1 is. This year #4 Oklahoma got waxed by #8 WV and #3 VaTech got beat by #8 Kansas. That eliminates the attraction of a plus 1 for me.

you can't even compare them to college football

They make that much money now to do it. Oil was 25 bucks a barrel 9/11/01. We just hit 120 a barrel. I wouldnt be surprised if they took that into consideration. After all, it is a business more than anything else.

I can see why the Pac-10 and Big-10 would fear such a plan. I definitely think a +1 system would be advantageous for the SEC. With so many good teams in the conference, it's getting harder and harder for one team to run the table, while that's more likely to happen in the weaker conferences, like the Pac-10 and Big-10. Because of that, with the current BCS system, there will be some years where the SEC champ doesn't make the championship game. However if you start with the four best teams, then the SEC champ would usually fall into that Top 4 and have a shot at the title.

exactly, in the hands of the POLLSTERS. not to be determined on the field, to be determined by 2 polls and a computer formula.

how can anyone call themselves a college football fan and be ok with having the national champion determined by the pollsters, as you called it?

the only difference between now and before is the pollsters pick 2 teams to play for the national championship instead of just giving it to 1. its still VERY possible that the team that the best team, aka the national champion, is not among those 2 teams.

and #1 ohio st got waxed in their bowl game too. so according to your logic they shouldnt have been in the ncg either.

#1 ohio st also got waxed in their bowl game last year. should they have been there?

what about #1 usc getting beat in their bowl game in 2005?

hindsight is a wonderful thing isnt it?

again, this is just fricking ignorant.

high school football teams that win the state championship end up playing 15 games a year. that would be the same as college football in a +1. that doesnt stop them from having a playoff.

1aa and div2 ARE college football. that doesnt stop them from having a playoff.

EVERY nfl team plays more games per year than ANY college team. that doesnt stop them from having a playoff.

so what you are saying is in the coming years, because of the rising oil prices, teams are no longer going to playing games that require them to fly somewhere, right? they will only play other schools in their region that they can take a bus to, right?

hell why stop there. in 10 years oil will be so high they wont even be able to afford to take buses. once that happens college football will just stop existing, right?
