It is the flagship of the state and the athletic program is one of very few that can consistently field elite programs and still profit enough to return money to the academic side. All of that is attributable to politics too, right?

You need to educate yourself on a little Louisiana history. Let me help you.. start with researching Huey Long's role in elevating LSU in our state...

Arnsparger eventually hired Spurrier at Florida. So there's some more salt in that wound for ya.

Just check the changes in all aspects of the School two states over, especially growth! We may despise them but their changes of the last 10 years have reached FAR BEYOND Bryant Denny because of the success of Football!

This is disingenuous. Bama has made a concerted effort to recruit academically out of state. Everybody thinks their success is because of football, and I'm sure it's helped, but they recruited out of states kids hard.

Lsu has adopted the policy of "if they come here they come here". Bama pursues out of state students.

Yes because in North Louisiana things are so much better.

LSU decided not to pay Fisher or Herman the amount they wanted. At least they tried to look outside the program but could not justify paying all that money and still paying Miles.

Both Fisher and Herman played LSU ...each for their own purpose. Neither was coming to LSU.
Fisher wanted to leverage his internal FSU foes and Herman wanted Texas all along.

The Spurrier thread, yet again. Archer was a terrible hire and yes he set the program back, but Spurrier was not yet the coach that he became. In 1987 when Archer was hired, Spurrier was out of coaching for over a year after the USFL folded. His job with the Tampa Bay Bandits was his first HC job. After LSU passed on him he eventually was hired by Duke. It was only after he did well at Duke that his stock began to rise.

Ultimately, Archer was chosen because he was Arnsparger's hand-picked successor

that has nothing to do with Louisiana politics. our dumb arse Admin never should let the outgoing coach select his successor. hell, saban pushed for Houston nutt.

i'll admit that at the time Archer did look like he would be a good coach and his first year was a damn good one. then, it unraveled as he forgot to recruit.
