Every man rises to the point where he reaches his own level of incompetency

Now, for some who post in here, that may apply to the skills necessary to walk and chew bubble gum at the same time!

As it relates to College FB coaching, it was abundantly clear that Head Coach Kragthorpe was a dismal failure at his last gig, to say the least.

However, as a developer of QBs and the resultant increase of offensive unit output that is the job of a playcaller and OC, Krags was nothing short of a Marvel Comic Book Superhero

If Coach Krags can get us to reach these 2 statistical "Milestones" (pun intended), and the Defense does its usual bang-up job, we're gonna dance the boogaloo again on Bourbon Street next january ... Mark it!

Total offense ... More than 400 ypg

LSU averaged 363 ypg the past 4 seasons, from a low of 304 ypg in 2009 to a high of 439 ypg in 2007. We had 341 ypg last year.

Total scoring ... 35 ppg or more

LSU scored 39 ppg in 2007, hit a low of 23 in 2009 and scored near 29 in 2008 and 2010, and we appear to be peaking again to go over the 30 mark ... real key to success in 2011 is to get near the 35 point mark (2007 = 38.6)

Can a Coach Krags offense average 410 ypg and lay 35 points or more on folks in 2011 ... a 20% improvement over the last season

When you say prayers at night, say one for Krags, before you drift off to sleep & dream of dancing on Bourbon Street after a BCS victory.

Your title is deceptive, implying (to me, at least) that the principle applies in his current job.

everything about that thread is deceptive. We had a couple huge performances which makes or ypg look better than they really were. It would be nice to simply average 341ypg or better by actually gaining 341 ypg instead of gaining 150ypg several times and then boosting that number with a few huge performances.

JJ's ypg through the air was 108, yet he had atleast 5 or 6 games at exactly 100yds or less, with his minimum being like 25 yds.

I think Kragthorpe can achieve that type of success with the Oline and RB we will have this year. If he can somehow get Jefferson to see the field and stretch it vertically, then our running game will be the shite!

I don't know what I would do if I saw an LSU offense clicking on all cylinders! There are only 2 teams in the SEC that have the talent and expirience to keep every defense on their heels and that's LSU and Ark. The question is, will they hit their potential?
The difference is that Ark forgot teams have to play defense too.

So what O/U on YPG from Jefferson do you want for a friendly wager? Will you give me 160yds+ and you take the under since you're pessimistic?

I don't care about averages. Give me consistency. The thing that I remember most about the 2007 offense is not the high averages, but that we were able to score on everyone, every week.

The other seasons, we had sufficient averages, but we scored 50+ points on 3 or 4 rent-a-wins each season, and then would score 6 points at Auburn or one punt-return TD against UF.

I love the boogaloo, so I'm in. I understand and agree with your assessment of Krags coaching history. Head coaching and OC/qb coach are totally different jobs. To excel at one does not guarantee success at the other. My belief is that the combo of Krags and senior qbs, plus a better o-line, will be productive. Come onnnnnn linebackers.

Yeah, this happens with no other FBS teams.

35 ppg will be tough with only 2 cupcake games. We'd have to score 50+ in both.

Yes it is ... but only because many have written off this guy before he's had a chance to show what he can do!

We have a tool to measure Krags this season ...

It's called Offensive Production

Points per game & Yards per game

If you examine statistics over the last 4 years in the Crowton era, a lot of simple things stand out ... these are production related and they need to change to get us to the show.

Forget the rent-a-win stats ... It all works out in the end ... either we are producing at a championship caliber ... or we are not!

Barring any serious injuries, I'll wager that I can predict a New Orleans BCS repeat by the time we finish the West Virginia game

In other words ... If we have these stats after WV (with only one cream puff scheduled) and we are at 400+ & 35ppg ... we're on track to whip some serious azz in 2011 and RUN THE GD Table going 14-0

JJ is going to run the play action naked bootleg pass with limited receivers to perfection. If he just pulls it down and runs it will usually net us about 7 yards. I hope Kragthorpe keeps Crowton's quarterback draw as part of the mix too. It should be a fun year.

Cart >>>>> Horse

You are doing it wrong. Let's just see what Krags can do in his FIRST SEASON as OC with a QB situation that most would say is less than ideal.

If there is moderate improvement in Offensive production I will be very happy. I would hold off on crowning us champions just yet though. That is just me though.

You're title lured me in here...

I hope that SK can increase offensive production. That's something that everyone can agree was lacking since 2007, and is a reason why we haven't made a return trip to Atlanta.

Define moderate?

My numbers are a 20% improvement over last year

That's a "good improvement" that is achievable!

Not a chance. It totally makes sense. The OP is saying that Krags tops out, and does so impressively, as a QB/OC. His assertion is that his stints at HC show his level of competency to be one step lower, at the position or coordinator level. Now, I personally do not agree that we can conclude that Krags cannot succeed at the HC position, but given the facts available, it is an assertion on my part to say that he would succeed, so the OP's argument totally holds water.

I suppose all im saying is that I think Krags would be just fine if he took that average and made it more consistent. I'm not a statistics guy, so in lamen terms I would like to see that same 341 ypg, actually result in 341 ypg instead of some really great performances mixed in with some not so great performances.

as for this:
