He gave up 18 walks - which was higher than the previous year with much more limited action - that was the main issue, do we really need another wild pitcher I can't find the zone coming out of the bullpen ? I agree with some of your assessment but with arguably the number one pitching class coming in I just didn't see the importance. He should not even be needed at this juncture.

Again, teams hit .165 on him, you can give up some walks when nobody can hit you. This isnt a Mayers situation either, Mayers is giving away 2 free passes to get like 1-2 outs at this point. That is dangerously bad.
And Guidry isnt needed? Is this a joke, have you literally not paid attention at all to this bullpen outside of Evans and Cowan? Here's a little snapshot:
Against MSU G3 the pen gave 8 free passes away in 5.0 IP, had a WP and despite allowing just 3 total hits, ending up giving up 4 ER in those 5 innings.
Against Texas G2 (no Evans/Cowan that game), the pen gave away 5 free passes in 3.2 IP, got belted for 9 hits and gave up 6 ER which flat out lost us that game.
Against Mizzou, taking out Cowan/Evans that series the pen went: 7.1 IP, 10 free passes, 2 WP, 4 hits, 5 ER. So again despite keeping hits very limited, due to the free passes/wild pitches we gave up 5 earned in 7.1 IP.
This pen has been in desperate need for someone like Guidry to be frank. If someone like him was around and maybe 1 other guy steps up like Ware, Noot, Schmidt or Rizy; you really can make that move of Cowan to G3 starter and Shores to the pen.
Guidry gave up 1 walk and 5 hits in 10.2 IP in the fall striking out 19, with 0 ER, there's a reason there was a lot of hype surrounding him coming into the season. Dude was looking the best he's ever been and was getting talked about being stretched for more innings (even potential starter). Yes Rizy and Williams have good stuff and will be good pitchers, but they are not Evans right now and Guidry probably would have been ahead of both coming out the pen quite easily as they have been in/out of figuring things out this season.

You're giving out all this statistical information and you're not even assured of what Guidry will look like this year - he hasn't thrown a single pitch in a game situation. So throw out all the old data.

To address the comment on Mayers I completely agree with you - that's part of my point that he shouldn't even be needed with some of this class if they were producing. Noot and co have simply not been as advertised quite yet.

You're the one making the assumptions, I'm just providing the facts. Of course no one knows what he'll look like if/when he comes back this season, the point was he was looking ELITE heading into the season and was a top arm on the bullpen last season so yeah, of course he would have been a big piece to this bullpen this year.
He hasnt been successfully "replaced" at all since we literally have 2 bullpen arms we really even trust right now with a bunch of others getting things figured out and have cost us a lot in SEC games so far. Rizy has been in/out of getting things figured out this year, he has not been a Guidry "replacement". This bullpen is much better WITH Guidry than completely without. Not sure what your argument is there, it doesnt have to be 1 or the other, Guidry can be with all the current guys still pitching.
