Williams is a more athletic, high energy guy than anyone we've had in a very long time. He's gonna be a lot better than anyone he's being compared to in this thread

Well I wasn’t talking about off the court issues lol,

I realize you weren't, just an unfortunate coincidence I referenced the off-court issues Jamie had forgetting Williams has some issues himself in that regard.

Let's hope he does not have the same problems dealing with integrating to the university and team environment that Jamie had and does have the same non-stop motor and passion between the lines. Because if he does that would be fantastic.

I think he’s capable of being as good as both those players at their best, he’s a much more coveted recruit than either player so he’s got the talent to do it. Do you think he’ll start right away? Will it be him and Bigby-Williams at the 4 and 5 or will it be him and Reid with a two power forward look? Or will it be Bigby-Williams and Reid with Emmitt as our 6th man?

I do think WW craves a player with that mentality after going through this year with maybe too many good kids that don't have that kind of edge.

I used to not accept the, "well our kids played hard" line, cause...dammit, they are supposed to play hard. Man I would have given my right nut to play college basketball, I just never could understand that.

But today's kids are just different. Playing hard is not a given and fewer and fewer coaches are able to coax that out of them consistently. So when you get a kid like this who just instinctively has this mentality already, put him out there he's two steps ahead of many of his peers already.

I agree guys like Emmitt may not be as flashy as some but they’re the guys that create a winning attitude and are the heart of a team. Regardless if he starts or not he will see plenty of minutes and be a big part of shaping our season. My only pause on saying he will 100% is that I’ve heard the way a few of our coaches talk about Naz and it seems like they just love the kid. Not knocking him at all I think Naz will be great too I’m just saying that from what I’ve heard it sounds like he’s a lock at one spot. Of course he will have to earn it and I don’t think Wade is just going to give out a starting position. The other post position battle would be between Emmitt and Bigby-Williams, and I think Williams will win that 5 spot simply because of his size and ability to protect the rim, not necessarily because he’s a better player. How do you see it playing out?

I have not seen enough of them to give an educated opinion on it Mad, I take from what you are saying they are all post guys and not all can play at the same time?

I do know that WW was praising Bigsby for dominating at practice and blocking all kinds of shots...comparing him to the guy at Bama that fell on his head the other night and didn't play today.

I have also heard Naz's talent is unquestionable but unlike Williams his motor is maybe more Mickey/Martin...he plays hard when he feels like it or when it's a big game. If that's the case it will be good to have the depth to teach him that if he does that we have another guy who will.

Yes Naz is more of an offensive player with range and ball handling skills who can also rebound, while Emmitt is more of your 15 feet and in banger who’s game is owning the glass and giving a lot of energy. Like you said hard to say since we don’t know exactly what will translate to the next level yet. I do think Bigby-Williams will make a huge difference for us, he’s a great rim protector and athlete for a 6-11 man who runs the floor like a deer and has a 15 foot jumper. I haven’t seen his back to the basket game at all so not sure what he’ll give us on that front. However the rotation plays out we will be stacked on the front line next season and I can’t wait.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'm actually more excited for basketball next season than I am football.

I like Darius Day's game, his set jumper is butter. Pick and pop with Tremont will be dangerous and he will be a zone killer.

That’s great to hear, Days is the only one I haven’t seen play live or on video so I don’t know a lot about him. We need some more shooting at at his size being able to step out on the wing will be valuable to us.

I was joking but when I went to checkout everything I could on Emmitt Williams last night i saw that he had rape and unlawful imprisonment charges against him last year. They were dismissed in December but I had not heard about this and was shocked to read it. Bigby-Williams had similar trouble a couple years ago.

Yeah, I'm not very comfortable with this either, but we're just left to hope that whether there is anything to the charges are not these kids walk the line here cause it could get ugly if they don't.

Emmitt Williams starts, absolutely. He's a pitbull and brings an attitude that we don't have right now. Kid plays much bigger than 6'6/6'7. He's gonna give us more offense than anyone is talking about. He's not just a rebounder and shot blocker.

Days is kind of the overlooked guy, but he's so good. He can really score. He's got a pretty versatile game offensively and crashes the boards with the best of them.

Reid is a one and done guy. He can do it all. Score from inside and outside, handle the ball, and he's got excellent court vision. His passing is gonna wow the crowds at the pmac. Not the kind of vision you see often from a big guy. Another outstanding rebounder.

Smart is gonna start from day 1. Another guy who just has a presence on the court that we lack right now. I love the fact that he's been to nearly every home game this year. He's ready to go.

We will have a lot of options with the rotation and Wade will be play able to mix and match lineups nicely. So much versatility among this group.

How big were those two guys from the opposing team in the Emmitt Williams video? They swallowed him. He definitely outplayed him, but it’s not often you see a high school team have two players that significantly outsize a guy listed at 6’6” 215.

I’m thinking the starting lineup will look like this.

G- Tremont Waters
G- JaVonte Smart
G- Skyler Mays
F- Naz Reid
C- Kavell Bigby Williams

I think Wade simply loves Mays and likes the 3 guard style and I think the size difference and his ability to block shots will give Bigby-Williams the edge over Emmitt. I see Williams as our 6th man who’ll see 19-22 minutes per game and more in some games.

And I think he knows from recent NCAA history guard play usually is the X-factor in the NCAA tournament.

I'll give Mays this, he always busts it...even last year when pretty much everyone else was going through the motions. The second half of the year he cut down significantly on the kamikaze head-down drives to the goal and was arguably our most consistent player during that stretch.

The first half of the State game was the first time in a while he seemed out of sorts and a bit un-focused. I think he rebounded the second half and gave us the effort and energy that is his norm.

I think Edwards and Rachal will also give us solid bench depth. I really like Rachal's upside. If his work ethic is what I believe it to be he'll get better the more he plays.

One of those dudes is Emmitt Williams. It's obvious how much more tenacious Williams is from that video
