He was a walk-on who got a scholarship as a reward for his performance once we had lots of openings, just like some special teams players in previous years.

At running back? Kevin Steltz fits the criteria technically since he was a fullback. He was a real full time starter too, as we ran two back sets the majority of the time back then.
