I have a change of heart with respect to JJ. I used to think he was the worst QB in the country. I looked at him carefully against AU, and I saw lots of things he is capable of doing. He runs well, and on short throws he's OK if given the time.

He is at his worst when he stands in the pocket looking for receivers 30 yards away. Our offensive line has to take the blame for a lot of things I previously blamed on JJ. He needs to set up in a moving pocket, and go for shorters passes. I'm an accountant, not a football coach. If I can see these things, WTF are our coaches doing?

One more thing. I remember times when Coach Mac would play 2 QBs in the same backfield at the same time - a running QB and a passing QB. That gives the defense a nightmare trying to line up for the play.

He's terrible at short passes because of his long wind up motion. The best thing he's capable of is making plays with his feet. That's it.

That can be fixed. Don't we have a QB coach who is supposed to improve on things like that.

What did Bear Bryant say one time, "If you have two qbs, you have none."

I've never said he was bad for every offensive scheme, but it is absolutely useless to try to make him into a pocket passer who reads defenses and tries to run an offense that runs 3 & 4 receiver sets.

In a dumbed-down offense that only throws an occasional bomb with slants and TE seam routes mixed in, he's about as good as you're gonna get.

But his slowness in the pocket will let other teams tee off on you. So you need to run play action out of power running formations if you're going to throw with him, or he's going to make the rest of the team look awful.

He meant ALWAYS playing 2 QB's. Not an occasional play every now and then.

JJ does lots of things well. He just isn't throwing the ball well, but that's a pretty fricking important thing for a QB. I know a lot of people would say he is making bad reads and isn't safe with the ball this year, but 1/2 his INTs were results of bad throws, not bad reads. The fact that Lee doesn't handle pressure very well almost makes me see why the coaches would still stick with JJ.

Jtiger,

You were right the first time. He is the worst in the country. He ran well Saturday b/c Auburn was comfortable with letting him scamper some yards away. They were watching Rids. When Lee came in, they dominated our line b/c they know he can throw.

Jefferson has as much ability to pay qb at the SEC level as I have ability to be a neurosurgeon!
