I'm thinking he's the 6th man. He's just not better than Smart enough to start over him.
Will Wade made those comments about Smart and Williams for a reason during the season when he said the team lacked a toughness and swag that those guys will bring.

Another thing people haven't mentioned - Williams scored his 44 points in only 23 minutes of play. How is that possible? That's one made basket for every minute. That's like him making a basket every possession for the entire time he is in the game.
