Yea im with jim on this 1... dont see any similarities between the 2.
And everyone needs to just calm down a bit. Yea the lose hurts and sucks. But people were overhyping this team since the summer. Why? Because we finally got some big time recruits. Mickey is our best player and solid. But people were way more excited about Martin. And hes had his ups and downs this year and is trying to get comfortable out there.
So everyone was excited about this year and hyping it up because of our youngsters. Sure they were big recruits coming out of high school, but they still are youngsters. And Martin has "underachieved" to peoples standards coming out of high school. He will grow and get better the more he plays.
Our vets are JOB, Hickey, and Stringer. 2 of them are PGs that are about 5'10 and streaky shooters. JOB is a down low guy, but disappears during games. He has big time issues with double teams in the short corner. Gets out of control and makes a bad pass.
Everyone needs to just take a step back and think of the big picture. This is the 1st time in a while where we have legit talent on the team, but most of them are young freshman still acclimating to the game. And i expect them all to be back next year. This year isnt a sweet 16 or bust type of year. People that think that or thought that were way overhyping this team. We have some good young talent, but there are a lot of teams that have just as good or better talent than we do.
I expect us to be vastly improved by the time the SEC tourney comes around.

I don't know about that comparison but he hasn't shown many great traits as a coach other than his recruiting ability...

Yeah I get that you use generic basketball terms to make it seem like you know what you're talking about.
Good forbid I said bad defensive sets rather than bad defensive rotation

In this day and age when budget cuts are the norm it amazes me why the powers that be do not read the rant. It would be so easy to replace Jones, Miles , Mainieri and Alleva with far superior coaches and administrators who have infinitely more knowledge and would be more than willing to provide their services at greatly decreased salaries. What a savings that is there for the taking.

This is actually a problem and aren't at all the same thing.
Bad Defensive set= Coaching. Always
Bad Defensive rotation= Could be coaching (not teaching to fight through/around screens), could be a good offensive play, could be the players just aren't trying or just got lost.
Considering our guys usually do a decent job with screens, most of the time I think this falls on the players

quote:Sad to say but this is right on! We should have never been down to this team by 19 ever! No excuse. Monty is great at blaming himself and the team and it's old!How could LSU lose to this bad team? Really bad.
All hype
Bad defensive sets, terrible end of game play calls, misuse of talent
I hate watching two basketball teams lose the same way

My biggest problem with Jones is the halfcourt offense. It seems like we rely way too much on contested threes when both JOB and Mickey are in the post. We dont seem to run much o an offense, its always give it to JOB in the post and stand around and watch him get double teamed. We need to either relocate the shooters or cut to the basket. JOB needs to remember to dribble out a little if needed.
But I still think Jones is a good coach and can get us to the tourney fairly consistently.

Did I say we need to replace him?
I just pointed out some of his weaknesses. I don't want him fired because he's done good things, I just don't want to give him a free pass for the things he can improve on.

you bring up a good point
I guess I'm quicker to blame Monty since he's been around for longer but Jones needs to get his shite together.
