does any one have a tape of John Ferguson calling a game. I spent many a night sitting in my car in the driveway listening to him as a kid on WWL.

The worst radio announcer in LSU history. The guy was painful to listen to.

That's just saying he was worse than Hawthorne...unless you're in your 70's and can remember who was the voice of the Tigers before Ferguson.

I had no problem with JF, but I was very young when I listened to him. Some old timers have told me that he was bad at getting the yardage right on many calls.

John Ferguson was wonderful and a great ambassador for LSU. If you recall, he was also the first play by play guy for the SEC's original basketball package with some outfit,TVS along with Joe Dean.

The only thing I've ever seen is some link to the 1972 Ole Miss ending. Maybe someone here can show you, since I've seen it here before.

Not only that, but saying there were penalties on plays when there wasn't and not telling when there were penalties. The guy was horrible as a play by play guy. Yes people there was someone worse than Hawthorne.

Some of you guys are simply miss informed. He was the best and is and shall always be "The Golden Voice" of Fighting Tiger Football. From the first game Hawthorne did in 83 he has been a joke!

And yes I have many games Mr. Ferguson called. Notre Dame (in Tiger Stadium) Ole Miss (61-17) Florida in '78 and many others.

Both guys were/are pretty good. It's got to be difficult to call out 3 hours worth of football, or B-ball without missing a number or name, or penalty, or yardage etc.. I've listen to alot of play by play and everyone screws up. Mistakes are common in this business. I thank them for being the "Voice of the Tigers" and giving me many memorable Saturday nights.

You can tell football season is over in Tigertown, but it usually takes a little longer for the announcer-bashing to begin. What gives? You should thank God every day for the announcers we have, afterall, we could have announcer as bad as Old Misses

No secret I am a Ferguson fan, but does anyone know who the announcer was before JW Politz?

I remember driving home from a church function with my dad, listening to the 1972 Ole Miss game on the radio of our 1966 Pontiac Ventura. It got so exciting going down the stretch that he had to pull over in front of the Krispy Kreme on Plank Road to make sure we didn't run off the road or into anyone else. When Jones completed that pass we screamed and hollered like maniacs. John Ferguson was the best.

I liked Ferguson more than Hawthorne. I liked his voice more and I hate Hawthorne's negativity when LSU is playing poorly. He exaggerates how bad they are playing. I never liked listening to Hawthorne.

I remember Hawthorne saying in disgust that a touchdown pass was dropped by an LSU receiver (can't remember who), he went on and on about the dropped pass. When I finally see the highlights, the receiver totally sold out for the ball, had a defender hanging all over him, and performed a minor miracle to get one finger on the ball. This is the kind of bullshite he does all of the time.

Ferguson did Saints radio for a year or two in the 80s. After listening to Jim Henderson, JF was hard to listen to. For some reason, he did LSU radio much better.
