fresh off a 5-7 Season Since 2008

Also fresh off a season in which UTK was #1 in the SEC in ypg allowed in conference play, and also probably had the best defensive performance against UF this year.

I don't really see a downsize to this hire.

The only real grip i hear about Chavis is that he is a hands off guy during games--coaches from the booth, i believe. I like fiery guys, but as long as he knows what he's doing i'm fine. Besides, if we get Orgeron, we'll have all the fire we need on the sideline.

After the dismal performance of the defense this pass season, I welcome any change. Chavis is a safe hire. He knows the SEC and he knows how to manage a game on his side of the ball...that's good enough for me.

I don't know about ya'll but if we get Coach O I will be pumped

You ought to be pumped about getting one of the best DC's in college football. Coach O would be desert, but wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy down the totem poll in importance since their are a lot of good DL coaches with attitude.

I think this is a great hire for The Hat. Chavis is a great coach who did at with UT than most could have. A proven DC is just what we need to get back to the SECCG and possibly another National Championship. This news has made me feel so much better about next season.

Now I have come on here and said things about Coach O as a DC but if he comes in to coach the D-line I think this would be great for LSU as well. Alot fire and passion for the game. Something these players need to see from the defensive coaches next year.

Hey it's a great day to be a Tiger Fan!!!

Chavis has been the only name constantly and seriously linked to this position.I know Walker has been mentioned but not as much as Chavis. I am wondering if anyone else wanted this job or if Chavis was Les's only choice or even if Les interviewed anyone else.No other names were seriously mentioned. I thought that we would have had plenty coaches wanting this job.

What a huge upgrade over Malveto.

Maybe so but still he is old school and that scares me. The SEC is a different beast these days and Chavis hasnt been doing much at UT.

We will see but I am afraid Miles may have picked the final nail. Time will tell.

Would you consider Nick Saban "old school"?
