John Brady's Character

I just finished reading "Pistol - The Life of Pete Maravich" by Mark Kriegel. It really is a great book. In the book, he discusses Pistol Pete's two sons and there basketball careers. If you remember, Josh Maravich, Pete's youngest son, played for LSU for four years. Granted, he did not have the skills of his father, but in the book they discuss how he truly wanted to attend LSU for his father's sake. Brady tried to talk him out of it, but let him walk on because " I certainly wasn't going to be the coach not to let the son of Pistol Pete walk on at LSU". From then, he goes on to discuss how John Brady basically made him a punchline during practices. Kriegel says " In practice, his finest moments became his most humiliating. Every time he scored in practice Brady would blow a whistle even before the ball went through the net. A disdainful wince would come across the coach's face as he began to excoriate the guy who just got beat, reminding him that he wasn't guarding an All-American from Kentucky or Florida. "C'mon," Brady would say. "This is Josh Maravich... Josh" " Josh would look up at (Pete Maravich) banner hanging in the rafters and hope his father was not see what was happening. The coach would mention his name only to admonish another player. "You just let Josh Maravich score on you son". "Brady would tell everybody how he admired Pete Maravich, but then he goes on and treats his son like crap" says Jackie Maravich (Pete's widow and Josh's mom). "People who were there called me and told me how Brady humiliated him a couple of times in practice" Then it says that Josh was the only senior to not get in the game on Senior Day at the PMAC.
I don't know Josh Maravich and I know he isn't the Pistol, but what a revealing piece on the way John Brady treats people in general, much less the son of the school's biggest legend. Brady is a jerk and it is time to get a fresh start with the basketball program. He and his coaching are an embarassment to LSU and its fans.

He may be a bigger jerk than Saban..........and that's saying a lot.

Brady has obviously worn out his welcome at LSU, time for him to go now.

ask Josh about how he used to skip practices and games... Brady didn't want the guy in the first place. He shouldn't have tried to play at LSU. He knew he'd be nothing more than a practice body. But I guess because his dad was Pete Maravich, mostg here figure he should have been given a full scholarship.

I can't speak on all the things mentioned here, but I have talked to Josh numerous times at bars during my days at LSU - him and I are the same age or I am just a little older. Every time we would talk basketball, the first thing he would say is "Brady's gotta go." That is verbatim. He was always a nice go to me (Josh), and it wouldn't surprise me one bit that he was treated like shite. I for one know a player that was a walkon @ UNO that was there when Brady was an asst. coach under Tim Floyd. Brady berated him so bad that later on that evening, he went and slashed his tires.

Brady is an unapologetic prick and he will be gone after this year.

Sounds like a smart guy.

I played against Josh at junior nationals, no, he wasn't his dad. However, he complained about Brady throughout. Brady is a dick and needs to be fired.

wonder what the deal was... from talking to Flesh and Terrebonne, they both seemed frustrated with not getting to play but as walk-ons I think they understood. Terrebonne never really had anything bad to say about Brady though. I know he always plays favorites (Brandon Bass was his boy from what I hear)

In a coach, I want a guy who either does a good job or has class. It's okay to lack class if you are a good coach. Brady is not a good coach.
I could take the losing if I thought he was a decent guy who respected the game, and cared about graduating players and making them better men.

Brady's big on adversity and not making it easy on guys to survive four years, read Darnell Lazare's quotes in the Advocate from a couple of years ago. Now Brady is getting a does of his own medicine! Let's see how he handles it with not many winnable games left on the schedule.

Josh would always brag about how he would skip meetings and practices and that Brady couldnt get rid of him. He also would state many times he should have gotten more playing time. LOL. He did however always say he hated Brady and most others did as well.

No, not really.

From the people that I know that are close to the program let me in on minor details thruout the past 7 or 8 years. Basically he takes things out on a certain player each year. Excessive verbal harassment and beratings. Ones that I can think of off-hand are Milden Ambres-transferred, Thomas Davis-rarely saw the floor, Ben Voogd-transferred, Josh Maravich - a freaking walk on for God's sake. This yeah I don't know who it is, but I can promise there is one.
The fact of the matter, he likes to pick on the "worst" or "Weakest" of the bunch and makes an example of them all the time. This is coming from people very close to the team.
For those that doubt my cred, that's your opinion, but a few people on here know that I am speaking the truth.

I challenge one Brady fan to this : find one former player with something good to say about the guy.

There's a reason you don't often see basketball alumni @ the games. It normally takes a big event i.e. the 1986 Final 4 team reunion to get them there.

Most of what has been said on here is about 90% true. For those that follow my posts (i.e. Stro), you know i am very reliable when it comes to this stuff.
Brady has had HUGE character/morality issues for his entire career, on and off the court. The way he treats players on a regular basis is unconsionable. Karma comes back around eventually, and karma is about to kick brady in the arse. About time.
