JJ is LSU's Heisman candidate this year... He will have a decent shot to win it if we go undefeated and he can throw for 200 yards a game. End of Story.

He's a very experienced QB on a really good team and will have constant TV coverage.

I'm having a hard time with the Heisman talk though.

why?

because it's a joke and embarrassment considering his play and numbers he put up last year

the guy couldnt even stay on the field half the time

the rest of the nation is laughing at us for even mentioning jefferson and heisman in the same sentence

WE didn't mention shite. That was ESPN's SEC analyst.

eta: And he was only mentioned as a dark horse candidate if we're undefeated and playing for championships.

If he performs 25% better than he did 2 years ago (when he had an offensive line, like he will this year) his numbers will be fine.

The rest of the nation assumes LSU will be in the title picture with JJ as our quarterback. There are not many teams with better QB situations overall than LSU in the whole country.

So, there is about a .000000001% chance of him actually being seriously thought of as a candidate.

But let's say hypothetically, he does. What would you say?

Would they just be doing it for the ?

If we go undefeated and Jefferson takes us there, I'd say "Congrats, you earned it."

There's no way I would've carried myself as well as he has at that age with that much pressure. When people look back years from now he'll be on the list of winningest QBs in LSU history.

Major argument in JJ's favor here. There are lots of QBs better, but not many at all with better teams. Had Arkansas went undefeated Mallet probably wins by a landslide.

JJ is a serious work in progress, but he's entirely capable of making some big plays. He's hit a few bombs while under heavy pressure. He broke off an 80 yd TD run against an SEC foe (yeah, I know that was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, but it wasn't a 20 yd run, he went the distance). If he is more aware on the field, he has the mobility to keep every play alive.

Again, you have to consider how the Heisman is voted on. If JJ makes the highlights every week (because we keep winning, and he does make some athletic plays), then he's gonna be in contention.

Preseason heisman hype is usually determined by the prior season, choctaw

So yes, considering his 2010 performance, it is a joke

usually....but do you actually think thats the case with JJ? I sure as hell don't.

But i'm more curious as to why it actually upsets people that he is mentioned.

These idiots screaming of it being embarassing are only doing it because they would be served so much crow if it happened that the would have to buy a new wardrobe. If he would great that means we got the "ship". Its just awhile bunch of butt hurt

The frick it hasn't

He may have an above average arm I guess, but most of that is negated by his horrible, long, slow delivery.

Don't get me wrong, I'd freakin LOVE for JJ to get the Heisman. But which do you think is more likely this year? A Heisman for JJ, or we finish the season with a different QB?

That's why I say this feels so fabricated. Because it is.

To the person who asked if Jordan brought up the Heisman talk first, NO, he did not. First Take's Jay Crawford asked him about.

He then asked Jordan what his personal goals are, and Jordan was honest and said he wanted to win the Heisman Trophy, be a first team All-American and All-SEC.

I don't understand all the hate for the guy. Yes, I know he had a terrible 2010, but if the guy comes out and plays steady football, LSU can win a national title. Usually, the QB for a national title contending team is in the running for a Heisman Trophy.

yeah, only by Chris Low, and under some fairly unlikely circumstances. unless there's someone else out there pushing this?
